Being halfway through my quest to lighten the weight of equipment I carry, I had decided to go for a Nikon 18-300, but having seen an 18-270 Tamron on another site, I wondered if anyone has any experience or opinions on this lens before I start looking at the weight of it, I know the Nikon is 550 grams.

I shot with the Tamron 16-300 for a while (which is the successor to the 18-270 I think) - very impressive quality considering the range. Unless you're a pixel peeper I'd wager you'd be happy with it - I can share a few samples if you are interested :)

Cracking images Mike, from landscape to macro, thank you very much, I don't need to be concerned about using non Nikon lenses now which is what I have always done.
Cheers,
Ken

Hi Ken.

I had a Tamron 18-270 and was really pleased with it to start with, but it soon developed and auto focus fault where it would hunt for focus and I ended up missing loads of shots. I would steer clear and get the 16-300 version which may well not have the same problem as the 18-270. HTH

I had the Nikon, and it was a good walkabout lens, but I found it a bit soft at the longer end. I changed it for the Tamron 70-300mm VC usd which was a cracking lens.
Based on the images posted by Mike, it looks like a great lens if you get a good one.
I only sold my Tamron 70-300 when I bought my Sigma 150-600.
