Operation stack

I knew there was more to the tale but I have a very poor memory for some reason! :P

And not forgetting the army veteran that arrives in France.
He was fumbling for his passport and the customs / border control lass says
"Have you not been here before?"
Yes replies the guy.
Well in that case you should KNOW that YOU MUST have your passport out ready to show.

But, protests the chap, last time I came here I never showed it!

Impossible sneered the lass, foreigners ALWAYS have to show their passport to enter our fine country.

The chap retorts, well when I landed in Normandy in 1944, I couldn't find a single Frenchman to show it to, anywhere!

These last few weeks haven't been too bad - they haven't stacked past j8 on the M20, when it is closed for bad weather getting anywhere in Kent is impossible, currently you just have to avoid Ashford!

I beg to differ.
I go home via junction 7 every day, and not only does it affect that junction, but pretty much all the way up the A249 to the M2 junction 5 because of all the Dover none freight traffic directed that way.
Heading towards Yelsted and weaving village by village is less frustrating tgan sitting in near-static traffic.

Clearly I have been very lucky then I travel that way and I haven't had a single problem this time round, I visit Maidstone a lot too and no difficulty there either!

I envy your luck. :-)

I'm glad I don't live in Maidstone any more..... my traffic jams are more likely to be caused by sheep these days

I loathe Maidstone.
It's to be avoided at all costs.

Is that bill going to France? Or is it for the Kent council tax payers?

You cannot put the whole blame on the French re: Migration.

I have just done a quick bit of research and found that any migrant coming from Afghanistan or Iraq firstly has to get to Turkey and then travel (quickest route assumed) through Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium and finally France. All these other countries must share some responsibility !

Can't argue with that although I bet the other countries just shoo them along. Until they run out of land and congregated on the shore (more or less) ;)

its been horrible. even yesterday ,when its supposed to be quiet, was bad along the a20.

spent a total of 5 hours yesterday on a 2.5 hour journey, making my total time in a car since thursday morning up to 18 hours.

that is just painful!! Make sure you stretch your back :)

Operation Stack - more like Operation Stuck.

I wonder what the knock on effect is of the tourist trade to France is?

And of course our own " internal tourist trade" of people heading for the south coast,
I think they owe us compensation ;)

These are the knock on effects that don't get a mention until serious damage has been done.

What about all the business that are losing money due to not being able to move in the Ashford area?

There are roughly the same amount of lorries go to France as come from France via the channel route. Why are there only miles of "stacked" lorries on the UK side ?

Because the French measure in kilometres... ;)

Because the French have lorry parks and rest stops - we have nowhere for them to go!

What's the betting that someone has applied for planning permission for a lorry park somewhere adjacent but the local council haven't had the right kickbacks so have turned it down...

That would some confused journey. Leaving aside the convoluted journey through Eastern Europe, why would anyone go from Austria to Germany, to Belgium to the Netherlands to then go back down to Belgium and end up in France. That is hundreds of kilometres for nothing and wasted.

Anyway I've already highlighted why I think they go for England, because it is a fantastic place. That has much more to do with it than other countries shooing them on. In fact the evidence is clear as more do actually go to other countries ;)

There are huge queues in France too during stack.
And unlike the trucks here, they're the ones at risk of having their doors compromised/tilts slashed by these transiting locusts.

And I too, and not necessarily for the same reasons as you ;)

Indeed and I disagree with you :p

Oh and in addition to England being great, well known and all that. There is ofcourse the internationally well known facts of easy women and cheap beer as demonstrated in our many reality TV exports around the world.

And I agree with you, with the proviso that my comments also have a very strong baring on the keenness to arrive on our fair shores :D

And I thought that was the Netherlands

:p

Nah beer isn't cheap ;)

Yes, Cameron was right to use the term "swarm". As usual he went off at half cock. "Swarm of locusts" ............... that'll do fine for a description.

and when you pop over to Calais :)
Erm there seems to be a bit of an issue with that at present :p

Ah but I'm only going on how the media portray's it the same as Jp was when he said

Google Earth "Get Directions" says that is the quickest route by road from Ankara to Calais.
