Opened film received from seller ?

Seems a bit iffy, have they definitely been opened or is it a case of glue failure? Working in retail I have no end of boxes that are already open when removed from they're outer straight from the factory.

Well if opened - then the product does not match its description. You'd be entitled to a return and refund....

nope the boxes are defo snipped open.

I'd be a bit miffed but I don't think I'd be sufficiently bothered to send them back as it shouldn't make a practical difference.

well it might be old film in a new box.

"Condition: New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging is applicable)."

Is what supplier says, so I would challenge....
Fred

True but I'd be surprised if Kentmere-branded film has been around long enough for there to be any out of date stock.

Agreed but why are the box's snipped open what other explanation?

They bought a job lot, decanted the film into a safe pack (one of those plastic waterproof jobbies), shot a couple of rolls and didn't like the results so sold on the remainder.

But never mind that, this is the internet so I suggest you go to his house and set fire to his dog.

You have not been charged for this advice.

Maybe I'm missing something by looking that on my phone bit I dint see the relevance.

Well I don't buy any film at a bootsale, even it's 20p, if the box is open. At the price you paid I'd send it back, or want a part refund.

Has happened to me a couple of times, from dealers. Have tended to ignore but it is a bit irritating. Once got a whole load of FP4 with no boxes at all, maybe was bought in bulk packs and split down. Never had a problem with the actual film in these cases though, though it does make you a bit suspicious about the freshness.

thats my thoughts the boxes all look good but all 5 are proper opened

Agree it's far from correct but I'd just go out and shoot.

The film that is, not the seller!

If you look at the seller it is RK Photographic ie thedarkroom.co.uk

As in its an established business you can phone rather than joe bloggs flogging film.

Well I sent them a picture and they have come back with they might have been squashed on the post and the boxes popped open all 5 ?

They have offered full replacement if required.

With the cost of postage it would be cheaper to give you a refund of £5 or even a gift voucher for the same amount.

You said they'd been snipped open though? Besides, if they'd been stood on, the cardboard would have folded and the canisters popped rather than the end of the box splitting, wouldn't they?

This was what I received

Yep, I'm calling horse apples on their reasoning for that. :)

At least they've offered a replacement - are they insisting that you pay for return postage?

I wouldn't have complained, it's only cheap film.

I wonder if youre missing the point I know its cheap film but is it the same film in the box that the best before stamped on the opened box is my thoughts.

Why not shoot a roll and find out...

In this case you'd be covered by distance selling regs as it was a BIN auction clearly from a business rather than private seller.

I would say allow them a chance to explain but it sounds like they've done that, the reason doesn't add up and they must have been like that when they were sent. However if I was going to put older film in a newer dated box deliberately I'd glue it closed again :)

Allow me to throw another point into the mix if I may.

How do we know that the expiry date on a roll of film is accurate or even for that batch of film? There have been many examples of people devving rolls of film from 30 or 40 years ago and the results are fine, so why worry?

bought 5 films from poundland a couple of months back, at least 2 were "opened". all good here just a matter of a bit of wear and tear on the boxes. cheers mike.
