Yes
I went into town this morning to get myself some screen protectors for my phone and happened to browse the local camera shop on my way back to the station...

Then I walked out with a D700

Ah well it's only money, just have to sell the D300 now to help pay for it. Only dissapointing thing was they didn't have any 50/1.4's in stock so couldn't get one of those as well :'(

But looking forward to playing with the D700, now I can happily carry that around with me everywhere once I have a suitable bag :)

Ohh very nice!! Which lenses have you got to use with it currently?

I came home from work this morning to find my dad reading my photo mag and the review on the D700. I was just hoping he was gunna say "do you want me to get you one of those". No chance:lol:

Well I've got a few lenses :D

Tamron 17-35, 24-70/2.8, 85/1.4, 80-200/2.8 AFS ( Really is great Hacker ;) ), Sigma 300/2.8

The guy tried to convince me to walk out with an SB900 too, but I'll leave that for a bit.

Let us know how you get on with it - is it a similar jump up from the D80 to the D300?

Pictures wanted (if it stops raining long enough).

Chris

So very nice glass to go with it then for sure! Im thinking of saving for the 24-70 to get in the future.

Hope you enjoy it mate, and look forward to seeing some shots with it:thumbs:

Well I have a wedding in a week and a half so need to check it over before then. Just hope there's an Aperture update to support it before then :(

I havnt had many aperture updates, maybe only 1 since march:shrug:

They aren't that frequent, but new cameras should be supported quickly. Having said that I have just found a hack that apparently works.

Hate to tell you this Chris, but the D700 plops over the D300 from a huge height.

Mind you, as you know I never really liked the D300 (compared to a D200 and especially the S5 Pro).

Good stuff, I'm so very tempted to get one of these as a second body but I have a large wants list at the moment and not really sure where this fits in it...for now...

I had no idea how big the SB900 was until I saw one next to an 800 yesterday, wow its huge!!

icecavern,

Send your plastic over to here and I will happily take it out for a walk!:p:lol:

Seriously, congratulations on your new toy. Do enjoy. When will you put the D300 up for sale? I am sure many here will snap it off you in no time.

devitt,

If your dad didn't make the offer to buy you the D700, you should be wise enough to tell him that you want it! Surely you have, by now, mastered the art of negotiations?

Yeah the SB900 is a beast, I'd like to get one at some point so I can use the SB800's as remote strobes, the 900 looks so much easier to setup.

It's already in the for sale section.

Got my SB-900 on Friday. I never could understand my 800 and, to be honest, the 900's manual is doing my head in at the moment too! The buttons seem a bit more logical but at the moment I'm disappointed that clarity hasn't come higher up Nikon's list when they wrote the manual. Nice flash though, biggest plus for me so far is that the recycle time is a big improvement over the 800... it's fast!

Flashy

Yeah I have been reading about the recycle time, it's a big plus I think, and along with the new control layout are the two things that are making me consider the purchase.

How does the SB-900 compare with the SB-600 for re-cycle time?

The SB-600 recycles a fair bit faster than the SB-800. Be curious to see where the SB-900 slots in.

I was thinking about getting the SB-900 (actually that interested me more than the D700 announcement), but its a bit of a commitment size wise by the looks of things.

It is large (about the same as a 580EXII for reference).

IIRC the 600 is 2.5s and the 900 is 2.3s (with 4 batteries, no need for the 5th). Add the SD-9 battery pack and it's 1s.

Not the best shots in the world but we had a BBQ last night so slapped the 85mm on the D700 to see if I could get some shots of the food cooking :D

Well he asked me last night if I wanted one from when he is off on holiday to Dubai but I am not sure on the warranty side of things. Gunna check it out in a minute maybe and see how much they are over there.

If that's the only worry you have, then don't worry! I bought most of my gear from Saudi Arabia (just as cheap as Dubai) and non have ever failed me. Just make sure you know which items to buy!

Nikon bodies are generally well built and you are very very unlucky to get one with an issue. The same can be said about Nikon glass. Sigma, on the otherhand, I'd be a bit more reluctant to buy from abroad.

Thanks for that. Tbh I cannot really afford the D700 and still have a long way to go with developing my skills so I am happy with my D80 at the moment. But a 24-70 2.8 may interest me:love:

This thread makes me want to spend money I don't have doing the same, damn you icecavern!!! :)

Icecavern, are you sure that camera is ok? Those sausages dont look black enough to me! ( Aargh, now I want a D700, dammit)

Ah now you see there's a very good reason for that... You see they'd not been on long and it was the end of the evening and the BBQ was cooling down. Now that steak on there was cooked nice and slowly... And it was fan-tastic
