Yes
I drink a lot of Coke....pints and pints a day; often with JD or JB in.

When I got up this morning, I said to my wife, "No Coke for me today!".

She gave a rye smile.

I went shopping and nipped into Costa (slight cheat!), but when I got to the front, I decided I didn't need caffine, so I left.

It's 15:54 and I can't take it any more....

Glass of Coke and JB is in my hand.

Balance is restored. :D

The end.

Seriously ... you have a problem!

Effect of Coca Cola on your body

In The First 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don’t immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down.

20 minutes: First effect of coca cola on your body. Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat. (Theres plenty of that at this particular moment)

40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dialate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked preventing drowsiness.

Your body ups your dopamine production stimulating the pleasure centers of your brain. This effect of coca cola is physically the same way heroin works, by the way.

The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in your lower intestine, providing a further boost in metabolism. This is compounded by high doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners also increasing the urinary excretion of calcium.

The effect of coca cola caffeine diuretic properties come into play. (It makes you have to pee.) It is now assured that you’ll evacuate the bonded calcium, magnesium and zinc that was headed to your bones as well as sodium, electrolyte and water.

>60 minutes: As the rave inside of you dies down you’ll start to have a sugar crash. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. You’ve also now, literally, flushed away all the water that was in the Coke. But not before infusing it with valuable nutrients your body could have used for things like even having the ability to hydrate your system or build strong bones and teeth.

Wierd, for me it is more like:

In the first 30 seconds you go "ahhhh, thats good"

After the first 30 seconds you enjoy the refreshing drink and get on with life.

....could possibly explain why I am overweight :p

I prefer caffeine free diet coke myself, with spiced rum whenever possible! no sugar rush.

I can't stand fizzy or sugary drinks, my teeth fur up just at the thought of them.:gag:

Diet drinks aren't that much better as artificial sweetners have their own nasty effects.

Don't the fizzy drinks have phenolalaynine (sp?) that is addictive?

Drink coke, get fat and diabetic. Not quite the same ring to it as their normal advertising...

if it comes to carbonated drinks, i'm not really a big fan to be honest. If i'm at home, i'd rather have a glass of milk!!

friend of mine swears by Sailor Jerrys spiced rum.....never tried it myself, but now I know sainsburys sell it I might have to have a snifter

I agree with you there Gramps  Mixing fizzy stuff with JD! :cuckoo:

Nooooo... JD needs the coke... Jim Beam, on the other hand, is WAY better. But neither of them are quite as good as Gentleman Jack - that stuff just trickles down, and ANYONE who mixes that with with coke ought to be done for substance abuse!

Noooooooooo !!! JD needs................nothing else! If you're going to drown whiskey in sickly liquid sugar, use el cheapo supermarket own brand! Ol' Jack'll be turning in his grave!

I have a friend who has a similar coke addiction. Not often mixed though, he is just a coke lover! Swapped to diet a few years ago though.

Do you have to start the day with a 2 litre bottle?

Hahaha! Wait until you've tried Gentleman Jack then... and the next time you have JD after that, you'll wonder what the hell all the fuss was about!

I can't stomach JD, far too sickly... Much prefer grown up bourbon. Makers mark and bullet ftw, although I will be treating myself to a bottle of Wild Turkey over Xmas.
:-)

Gentleman Jack is in the same sort of league as Bulleit, imho. Shame there aren't too many places round my way that sell the Bulleit though - it's definitely a case of throwing the lid away, cos you won't be needing it again!

mmmm coke - i have reduced my habit to 3 cans a day but my coffee addiction is still around 15-20 cups - i buy a kilo of beans every week or so. no coffee and i get a headache and grumpy (or maybe thats just normal me but without the headache)

What's the best way of removing drool from a keyboard?

The thing I love about some of those bourbons is brands like Makers Mark - they have 4 or 5 old ladies who dip the bottles in wax to seal them... and you can usually tell which one has dipped which bottle... the human touch - nothing quite like it!

(GJ is a few quid cheaper at Asda or Morrison's than on there - go on, treat yourself!)

I'll keep my eyes peeled next time I'm in there! Red stag is also a lot cheaper in Tesco... £16!

Hmm, always up for a challenge. The JD is getting a little on the low side so may have to give this other Jack a try.

JD and ginger ale if i want a long cooler... otherwise leave it alone.

Google aspartame if you want to know what's in the artificial sweetened drinks :gag:

Probably one of the most evil substances known to man...

Do it - you know it makes sense! And then try Bulleit too!

Well worth it, believe me! And Xmas IS just around the corner! :D

if you want cheap JD try western gold from lidl - tastes just like it so my son says

Tricky. Looked at Asda's site.

JD 70cl - £18

JD 1ltr - £18

GJ 70cl - £25

[tightarse] 1 litre of JD for £18 v 70cl of GJ for £25 [/tightarse]

:D

Get the Gentleman Jack! Quality over quantity every day of the week (and twice on Sundays!)

You won't be disappointed.

There's an awful lot of conspiracy theories and half truths about them.
For instance yes, I believe it can be converted to Formaldehyde in your body. Sounds pretty scary!... at least until you find out that 'natural' organge juice also does the same, but even more!

I got addicted to Coke Zero a while ago. Well, more specifically to the caffeine - not a tea/coffee drinker so not normally one that has to have stimulants to keep going, but work was reasonably stressful and never getting enough sleep meant an occasional can to 'pep me up' turned in to a coffee-addict matching 4 a day (actually, probably still a fair bit less caffeine.)

Seems like there are quite a few bourbon drinkers on here :D

Well, I decided to abstain from all caffeine and alcohol for 7 days and I did it. It wasn't that hard really.

I've decided to have 2 abstinence days per week.

BTW, my boss got me a bottle of JB for Christmas...:D

Cheers.

I have been struck down with a bad case of man flu, so the last couple of days JD had been mixed with honey and lemon to try and help me kick the nasty illness.lol
