OOD ILFORD FP4 - how bad is this?

I took a punt on a sealed tin of FP4 on that online auction site: the seller didn't have much to say but, having gone a tad silly, I became the proud-ish owner of what I hoped would be a full 17 metre roll of FP4 for £17.

The tin arrived and it was indeed still sealed. In my "under my coat on my lap" darkroom I opened the seal and fumbled my way into the bag and there to my quiet relief was indeed a roll of film.

Not sure exactly how old it is but the sticker on the base of the tin suggests 1987.

A first roll was shoved through my OM3 and dropped at Studio 5 in Thetford with a request for urgent dev and cd.

Looks like you had a winner there, I hope the price was good. There is some grain on the last close up, but the first shot is very good, great contrast and very fine indeed.

Of the four photograph's I like the first the best, good composition, with lots of interest, the boat, the bridge, the house and the background tree's. The reflection in the water course adds a very nice depth to the shot.

All around I likey,likey.

Nice find. I used a lot of FP4 with my first slr.

£17 sound alright? The last one was taken early morning, low-ish light, barely looked at the metering. The one before that was taken after it, metered on the bird box. The other two are lunchtime same day in er... full sun.

Now, apart from the other two rolls I've loaded I need to decide whether to pop it back in the freezer or simply use it up.:shrug:

They look good so £17 sounds a vey good deal. With the bright weather conditions you might want to load a few more rolls for shooting!

At the IQ you are getting I would just put it in the fridge, you only have about 14 rolls left if my maths are correct, so about 14 months use and in the fridge it will be quickly available, in the freezer you are into taking out leaving until ready and then taking one or two rolls off and re-freezing, not worth it in my book.

I've got 3 rolls out and on the go at the moment now, Rollei 100, Agfa 400, and now this 125.

I'm interested in how you regard the IQ, presumably we're considering how far we're on borrowed time? I don't have enough experience to make an informed correlation.

I'm working through film at the rate of 24-48 frames per week plus holidays, outings and events.

I'm minded to refreeze my Rollei 100 and just enjoy the roll of FP4. UPDATE: all now on reels and ready to shoot. Trip to Duxford this Sunday: Merlins and Motors.

My FP4 and HP3 is dated 1982 and the results seem ok to me....but only use it now and again for some quick tests on camera and lenses, with an approx time and temp when home dev, so the images are sometimes not at their best.
