Wondered if I'm right to be a bit cheesed off here...

A couple of days ago I took advantage of OnOne Software's 'Best Deal of the Year' offer: CLICK

It is clearly enticing people to buy the product with the promise that it includes $100 worth of free training video's. I was going to buy the product at some point anyway so thought I may as well do it while this offer was on. I clicked through, made my payment, downloaded the software then followed the links through to Kelby's site for the video downloads. I was then surprised to see that my checkout basket showed the value of the video's to be just $39.90 and not the $100.00 as described in the advert!

I raised this in an email query to OnOne and they have replied with the following:
...if you remove your discount code from the cart you will see how the value changes. It looks like it is the way the Kelby shopping cart is handling the discount code. If you remove the code from the cart, you can see each product is listed for $49.99.
Well, I can't remove the discount code from the cart to confirm this because I've already checked out... I never entered a discount code anyway! So instead I checked on the Kelby Training website and sure enough the two products are being sold for $19.95 each (CLICK), not the $50.00 each claimed by OnOne.

I'm not particularly bothered about the video's although they're certainly not worth $50 each (not even worth $19.95 as far as I'm concerned!) but I am bothered about what I feel is misleading advertising. I'm sure that 'bigging up' the value of the bundled videos helps them sell their product but, if I am right about the selling price of these then it smacks of sharp practice to me.

Anyway, before I go any further, I just thought I'd ask you lovely lot if I'm right here or if I'm missing something obvious?

Don't be too cheesed off.

I've also just been offered a "Best Deal of the Year!", but it's $20 more ($149) with no additional extras. :'(

So I feel slightly less special than you. :)

Cheers,
Tony

My 'Best Deal of the Year' is $249 RRP $399

Ah, I think the difference is that your 'Best Deal' is for the the full version and mine is for the upgrade from Suite 6. Still, your 'best deal' doesn't look as 'best' as Tony's! I think...

And they wonder why 'Best Deal of the Year' ends up being here:

So nobody thinks I'm wrong to be pretty outraged then? This supposed $100 worth of video's is actually for sale at just $39.90 isn't it?

The DVDs of these courses are $50 each, so I guess in the minds of marketeers you're getting $100 worth; however, here in the real world you're getting $40 worth of downloadable videos.

While I can see this being mildly irritating, surely you were buying the software and not the training (you said "I'm not particularly bothered about the video's"), so no great loss.

If you're really unhappy OnOne operate a "30-day Satisfaction Guarantee on All Software" so you could get a refund.

Cheers,
Tony

Sure, absolutely... I had intended to buy this irrespective of any bundled offers and have no interest at all in the video's, they're pretty basic after all.

As you say, there's no loss to me and I'm not interested in getting any refunds or any more useless 'freebies'. It's just a principle thing, I just find it annoying that they should 'big up' their advertising in what seems to be a misleading way... maybe it's just me getting grumpy in middle age! Anyway, I've told them what I think, it's up to them if they take any notice or not. Their product isn't nearly as good as Nik's plugins anyway so  to them! :D
