The premise is based around the "if" expression.

If the store has eggs, buy 6 (referring to the eggs), which is the logical inference.
But, because of the structure of the statement, the alternative inference is equally valid - buy 1 carton of milk, and based on the status of eggs availability, increase that to 6 cartons of milk.
The number 6 can equally refer to the milk quantity as well as the eggs - hence it being an ambiguous statement.

The usual one in my household goes a little something like this. Whilst around the dinner table someone will say "could you pass the salad?" Someone else will simply answer "yes", and continue on eating until they ask correctly :D

An alternative answer: "I wouldn't eat it if I thought I couldn't - constipation is such a pain!"
 
my favourite is when asked 'can you play the piano' you answer 'I don't know, I haven't tried' :lol:
