Hi, new to the forum, and just starting out on the business side of things but have a good working knowledge of camera and lighting techniques.
Have been looking into online photography courses and wondering if anyone has completed either the Blackford Centre for professional photography course or the Photography Institute course, both seem relatively expensive so wanted to get some feedback on whether they were helpful and/or value for money before going any further?
Thanks for any comments or advice.

I think it would depend on your current experience with photoshop. Have you tried the adobe course? I've started that to get well versed in the basics and found it ok, from there, well there a a lot of courses online and also most likely in your local area.
What type of photography are you doing? Would that impact on how you plan on using photoshop?
Remember there are a lot of websites that provide tutorials for free. Perhaps take a look at these.

If you want I can pm you some websites i've used for my architecture work....?

Thanks for getting back to me, I did a course on photoshop a few years ago and am fairly proficient, I have also used you tube so far for anything I have been stuck with. My main area of photography so far has been portraiture, a few weddings and family and friends. I now want to brush up on what I have learned so far and thought that an online course with a mentor would be a good idea and would help more with the creative side of things as well as brushing up on any technical aspects, so any links you could forward me would be much appreciated. Kind regards and again thanks for getting back to me.

Pm sent
Sorry it's a bit short but I'm out working ATM! Hope they're enough to get you started. If you want more when I'm back next week just let me know :)

Hi,

Could I also have a PM since I am in a similar situation to the OP

Many thanks

check out creativelive by chase jarvis, it covers all the angles

Hi had a look, great resources but not really what I need at this point but thanks for the links.

Will check out the Jarvis one hopefully this will be closer to what I'm looking for at this stage.

Cheers

Have you tried checking out the photoshop magazines and journal forums? That's what I've suggested as my pm only really contained some basic stuff that is specific to portrait photography - however if you use them as a springboard I'm sure you can find some excellent tutorial sites, otherwise use the critique pages available on the photoshop forums and here.
A website called worth1000 is where I ended up as they run computing that forced me to up my game.

Hope this helps a little
Regards

Hi

I'm from the Blackford Centre for Professional Photography.

Please email our customer services address here - http://www.inst.org/photography-courses/contact.htm - and ask for a list of ex-students who are happy to talk about the course.

They can let you know what they thought of our course and how they have got on since completing it.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes

Sam
