Yes
just wondering if anyone has ever done an online course?, if so are they worth it?, did you learn anything more than you can by watching YouTube, reading books etc

Cheers

I suspect it depends on the individual, and the particular online course.

Some years ago I took the Open University Photography unit - which is done entirely online. It did include a full web forum system for students to discuss hte course and share images, and all assignments went to a specific tutor who personally marked and commented on them.

I did learn a fair bit, but part of that was that an online photography course should NOT have limits / restrictions on photo uploads (after getting a negative comment on one of my shots that was due to having to reduce quality to get within the limits!).

I've also been on a number of workshops, and read a number of books - and tend to take the view that there is no 'magic bullet' to learning photography.

What you need is to take photographs, and to have some form of input to try different things and find out what works best (photgraphically) for you (and in different circumstances) - what works best for you (learning wise) may well different to me.

Thanks for the input, this is my second attempt
at photography but this time I'm taking it more serious, im off to the Lake District soon and hopefully I can get some nice landscapes, any advice would be appreciated.

By taking any online courses (photography or any other subjects), it is up to you to have the right discipline, without any background interruptions, distractions.

Hi, when I first got my camera I got a course through wowcher for the shaw academy, it was a live learning course twice a week for four weeks. The aim for me was to better understand the functions of my camera and try to get my head around iso, aperture and shutter speeds for a better understanding. It did help me understand the basics and then when I started going out with my (much more experienced) friend it made it easier to grasp things he was showing me.
