Well my trusty old Denon AVC-A10SE has started playing up again. I had it serviced about a year ago and had a number of dry solder joints done. It may well be something simple again this time but I think it is time to bite the bullet and go for a new one. I am seriously looking at the Onkyo TX-NR609 and wondered if anybody had one and what their views were. I have read a few reviews but always good to hear from real users as such. Please do not flood me with other brands as I like to keep it simple
Cheers

Rich, This review should give some weight to what a good decision it would be to get one. My mate has one and the sound is superb. Blows my Pioneer away anyways :D

Thanks Nigel will take a looky

I've got a 609.

No complaints. You will find people with problems but as with most things, if it works fine you won't be posting on the internet to say so.

Biggest gripe posted is a flickering issue when playing blu ray through it. Something to do with its 24 frame per second processing but I've never seen anything wrong.

The DNLA is good. We just start up the kinsky app on the ipad and play music from my PCs windows media library out of the amp. Home video is on a HTPC connected to the amps PC input so never tried streaming video but I'm sure it would be fine.

Just wish I'd waited a bit longer as the price has come down a lot from the 400 odd that I paid!

Still a lot cheaper than the old Denon 3802 it replaced. Think the Denon sound was slightly better but not much in it. Get one :)

Thanks Robert, I know it defeats the object slightly but I would have thought if someone had a prob with putting B-ray through it then it would just be a simple case of sending vieo from the player direct to TV and just have audio running through the amp  might get a bit of sync issue I suppose but even that could probably be corrected. You mention how they have come down from the £400 you paid, what is the cheapest you have seen them for then and from who?
Cheers.

Think I paid 425 + 10% for 5 year warranty. Its 380 now at richer sounds but has been sold for 350 not that long ago.

I bought the amp mainly for its HDMI switching. Combined with a Logitech harmony one remote it just makes everything so simple. Switching from V+ box to blu ray or to radio or playing dnla streamed music is just one button press.

Ah right  I was initially looking at about £500. Since looking I have just come across this  :D I have holidays coming up in a couple of months so it will have to wait

Bit like camera gear... there's always something better that costs more :)

I think the 609 is end of life for that particular model now hence the price drop. It does all I need so I'm deliberately not looking any more.

I wouldn't put much faith in anything whathifi write. They aren't known for their unbiased and quality reviews.

Richersounds are doing the onkyo for £380 at the moment. Cheap as chips if it's any good.

No. After very publically being shown up to not understand what proper BluRay 24p playback was 5 years ago, I've totally ignored what they had to say about anything.

Except to try and find holes in what they write....

 Thats true Robert, as for What HiFi no I dont take in everything they write. After a lot of deliberation I have finally come to a decision with this one. Given the fact it will have to wait untill at least the end of August it might be to my advantage that it may come down a little in price. I was going to go for the 717 but the Audyssey MultEQ XT32 was what swung it.
