beware.....

buying from hong kong you will loose your rights

FYI

realzing the issues before you buy from abroad ... make an informed desision. unlike me!

1) parralel international warrantys are not accepted so it has to go back!

2) no refund effectivly or if it is its at considerable loss.

3) the price difference may not be that much ( in my case ) £80 for £1480 in purchses.

4) there is nothing on the home page that obviously informs you that its from abroad. you have to look

be very very carfull

Interesting first post ...

On the flip side ... Lots of people on here have ordered from them without any problems. (and saving money at the same time)

Hidden agenda me thinks .. :D

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Depends on what you buy, the warranty on the Canon lens (bodies are different) that you buy from them is the same as the lens you buy in the UK.

Pricewise, the reason there is not much of a saving just now is due to the weak pound.

Had loads of kit including Canon L glass from them. Never paid duty or taxes because if you get stung they pay you back every penny. Fast delivery and more than competitive.

If you think they aren't cheap then look at Kenko extension tubes at Jessies and then what you pay off them.

I wouldn't buy a body because of warranty issues but 5 lenses, camera grips and a few other bits n bobs I still use them.

Hardly worth the "hassle" in the first place if the saving was only £80 on an order of that size....

Flash I wish I could afford to say that LOL . I would consider £80 a fantastic saving even on £1500. :D

I always shop around and if theres only a few quid saving then fair does but I consider if I only have to click a few buttons and save anything over £20 worth it as long as warrenties carry over to the UK.

Many people here know about onestop digital and have bought from them, including myself.
Again, a lot of people are aware they are based in Hong Kong and that they provide a very good service.
Personally I would consider £80 a very good saving.
Shame your first post wasn't in the introduction section and you are moaning about a company with a very good reputation.

Go and buy from one of the real crap companies and then give us a report...

:agree: £80 in my pocket in my pocket is better than in some companies bank account.

................. Yes - OSD gets heaps of praise on this website.
Used them many times and will continue.
Excellent communicators and problem solvers when there are hitches.

Yes, very strange post indeed, I wonder if agates97 plans on becoming an actively contributing member, or has just joined to tell all the people that have successfully used OSD how bad they are? :suspect:

Yes, btw, I have used them too, a lot, but won't at the moment because the savings are minimal and when the balance against warranty issues is considered - £80 on a £1500 body is not enough of a saving should the worse happen and it has go back to Hong Kong for repair imo. :nono:

I've only noticed this recently and been looking for an excuse to use it :D

If i was about to spend £1500 with an internet company I would have done my research...and...OSD seem to be a good company in most peoples experience. To be honest you may well have more hassle trying to argue a refund in any DSG company (Dixons etc.) who can also be awkward. Seems a bit of a strange first post.

I was their 12th Customer.. Order Number: 12
Order Date: Monday 06 June, 2005
and at no stage have OSD ever hidden the fact that there are HK, and they are about as honest regarding overseas warranty as any other HK seller... yes.. with Sigma lenses you are stuffed for warranty service by Sigma UK, and Nikon camera bodies do not have warranty either.

However this is just a fact of life with importing and nothing to do with OSD in particular! So yes.. the OP is right that buying from HK is very often false economy, but the same can be said from any other HK seller.
