Is it me, or is this HK supplier looking a little expensive at the moment?
Specifically, I am looking at the Nikon SB900.

I can walk into my local high street shop (RGB Photo) and pick one up cheaper.
I can save a further tenner if I buy from Jessops online.

Am I missing something here?

Not made a thorough examination yet. I have bought about half a dozen items from OSD and made significant savings, but recently have backed off buying because either what I wanted was cheaper here or the OSD price was only marginally better.

Just need to check out prices before ordering.

picking one up from jessops later today £309 with discount code.

Nice price.

I got hit with VAT invoice for my lens which now makes it more expensive than Amazon :( Just hope they hold true to their promise.

Can you keep us updated on how that goes, please Alan?

Was it the carrrier who alerted you to the VAT demand?

Thats shame I bought my last 2 lenses from them was a big saving fast delivery and I did not have to pay tax:)

It was a few years ago, but they refunded my customs charges without any problems when I got caught. I just had to email them a copy of the invoice. It was DHL at the time.

Would I be correct in asking if that was a letter from FedEx requesting the VAT/import charge - as it has happened to me once when I brought from a shop in Hong-Kong on ebay & got stung £47 import charges about 7 days after it was delivered... That wasn't OSD thou - so never used them again after that (the HK ebay seller)...

I guess it mostly depends on exchange rates. Sometimes it's advantageous to buy from overseas, sometimes not. Duty and VAT are often pot luck, but should always be factored in. Warranty issues should be considered too.

I have bought from overseas in the past, I don't think I'd do it at the moment though...
