One of the Best Bird Photographers that I have seen - Glenn Bartley

Very impressive work :)

Yip, glen does some good stuff.bill I'm interested though as to why you would pick glens images-what makes his images different from others on the internet?.As i said glen has some good work but there are hundreds of others who i would rate as highly or much higher so just interested in what you see in glens images..Cheers..

All images are liked/disliked depending on ones view point and interest.

You couldn't slag him off, they're great pictures but there HAS to be something else, like you say

Yip, i know a lot of people will fall into the trap because of the fantastic types of birds posted but i look further.I look for composition, colouring, sharpness, subject, background, thats before i start looking at Exif data to try and determine the conditions, all these help me paint a picture of what the photographer was putting up with condition wise. for glen is that he often has to shoot at highish iso with very slow shutter speeds of 1/20th-1/30th sec on the big 600mm lens on a moving subject.

A few quick thoughts Mark, (after watching a back episode of Gogglebox, which I find hilarious)

all IMHO, of course

His technical presentation and composition are very good
Sharpness, colours and all the usual stuff I find faultless
He has created a recognisable style of his own ……….. all the usual aspects that I cannot ever get "right" are just a "given" in his work
Clearly I am impressed with the range of birds he finds and the efforts he puts into his research and finding them - if you read his reports and watch his Utube videos you can see what he does…. a lot of effort must go into his work and he seems very knowledgeable about his subjects
He seems to be an unassuming and helpful guy who is really passionate about bird watching and nature …. and I feel this shows through in his images …… a sense of humour, fun and enjoyment seem to be in his presentations. which can't be bad.

Put them all together and I find what he produces, says, writes and offers to be very attractive

I tend to look at "bird images" in two ways …… technical and composition perfection illustrating the bird close up in it's natural environment of which there should be no doubt
and
the creative more distant shots of really good composition again showing the natural environment

But hey, these are just my views and I admire people who can take good birds shots as I know how difficult it is

I have always said, as well, that we also have some very good bird photographers in the Bird Section and I have learned so much from the section over the past 12 months

....Each to their own of course, but that's an extremely scientific and cold way to judge a photographer and his/her images. What about whether you are emotionally moved in any way when you first see a photo? Is a photo evocative? And then following that you might form opinions about whether the image is sharp and well composed.

Personally, I like and enjoy Glenn Bartley's pictures. But I agree that there some others with equal talent. I like the photography of Guy Edwardes a lot.
