YIPPEE... I got a picture published :D... Sorry to shout out about it.... Ok, it's published in the Sky At Night magazine on the cover CD which is a bit specialist but I'm really chuffed. :woot::woot::woot:

Iridium 63 flaring. The solar panels are reflecting the sunlight down at us, and that's the trail. The effect lasts about 20 seconds. This was shot at 55mm.

Superb. Well done!!

Cool, well done mate :)

Considering the shots you take, it sounds like the perfect publication (specialist or not). Care to share which image it is?

Thanks Gary and Lee. I've included the image in the OP.

Excellent shot, and well done!:clap:

Thanks very much everyone

Good on ya mate  Well done.

Woohoo - nice one. Your hard work on space images deserves some wider acknowledgment

thanks very much

Well done John, it's well deserved

Gary

 Well done - cracking shot

Congrats!

I have to ask though, what is it

Thank you

Marcel it's a communications satellite called an Iridium. This is Iridium 63 (there's about 90 of them in total). They are very small, but at just the right time and just the right position, the solar panels reflect the sunlight down at us. The flare lasts about 20 seconds in total. The tough bit is getting the camera pointed at just the right point in the sky, especially when you start increasing the focal length. This was shot at 55mm.

Ahhh! Gotcha, thanks for that :)
Pretty impressive to catch then!

Congratulations! That must be a really exciting thing,to see your own work out in the big wide world :D

I assume there is some reference guide published somewhere that tells you what will be where in the sky:thinking:

Well after all the chilly nights you have had and all the wonderful pics we have seen its more than well deserved.:)

Well done John, your perseverence has paid off with a great image of an illusive beast.

Thanks very much all

Karin, there's quite a few ways of finding whats going on up there, manmade and natural

Well done dude. Sounds like a lot of time and research goes into each photograph like this. The hard work is worth it:clap:

Cheers Devitt
