Having a little moment recounting my many journeys though life, when I suddenly realise that I am one of a few who actually have been attacked by a Tiger...it happened when I was 16 and visiting a local safari park...the beast got spooked and jumped the moat, which was supposed to prevent the animal from escaping, unfortunately the moat was not wide enough and it managed to escape...only the quick actions of the safari staff prevented any deaths....I ended up with a cut to my hand (small but at the time my boasting rights), from where the tigers paw touched as it scrambled to attempted freedom (not!) and my mate lost some cloth from his coat....

I have attached a photo to show you how lackadaisical safety was....it is one of my friends who got the loan of a young lion for the weekend from the park for a few shillings...

What happend to the tiger?

They beat it back into the moat with rubber hosing....and a long metal pole....no health or safety or animal welfare in those days :(

Tomorrow, I'm very much hoping that I don't join this select group! I am going on a Meet the Tigers experience day down at Dartmoor Zoological Park, where they keep the cats behind fences on 3 sides and a walled moat on the other. Taking a photographer mate down to record the hours for us (Mrs Nod is experiencing too) - hope he doesn't need to drop his red saturation!

Back in the 80's whilst on holiday in Tunisia, I got to hold a lion cub. All the scratches I endured came from the large dog that kept trying to attack it.

Did the tiger actually attack you, or was the cut just incidental as it tried to escape?

Wow, that's a story. I remember these days, we used to purchase bags of sugar lumps and cake from zoo staff to throw to the animals!

It actually attacked us...it was instigated by a group of young children who were throwing pebbles at it...we just happened to be in the path of the attack...
