I noticed today, that firefox doesnt view jpegs anywhere near as well as safari does!
open up a jpeg in safari and firefox and compare the two.
the firefox image is soft and pasty, and the safari photo looks great!

Am I the only person to notice this?

but firefox doesn't do anything as well as safari - so why are you using it?

I've never used Safari except to install firefox but just had a look to compare some photos. I don't see safari as being sharper but the images are ever so slightly darker.

I will keep looking. I hope it's not true, as I really like firefox.

Safari is so much better than firefox, firefox is nice, it works, just doesnt have the right look or feel to me.

Is firefox colour managed on the Mac? That might be the reason for the differences between the browsers...

On a Mac, Safari is easiliy the best browser. On a PC, it is Firefox that reigns supreme.

That's what it is :) I think Safari is the only mainstream browser that supports colour profiles is it not?

Quoted for absolute truth.

I wouldn't bother with Firefox on the mac unless there is a plug-in that you can't live without in any way shape or form and there isn't a safari equivalent.

For an EXIF (and many more plug-ins) for Safari, check out SafariStand. It's free and has loads of bits
built in or alternatively try this: It's a standalone reader but it means you can just drag the photo from the page onto the dock and it will give you the info.

It really depends if you want all the extra stuff that comes with SafariStand.

I think so but the Mac has better system wide support so I'm not sure if FF supports it anyway on the Mac. I know FF3 will add support according to the specs...

I just checked - FF doesn't colour manage on the Mac...

yes, Safari supports tabbed browsing.

I've just spent 5 minutes or more really carefully comparing Jpegs on both Safari and Firefox and I can't for the life of me see any difference. Not even a tiny weenie bit and I'm a fussy b****r.

Is there something I'm doing differently?

Is your system calibrated and colour managed?

I find Safari has problems with a number of sites I use regularly, 2 out of 4 of the banking sites don't work. Ebay does not give you the same interface whilst adding items for sale. Paypal is also a problem.

I like Safari but I need Firefox for certain sites. The ONLY problem I have with Firefox isn't really a problem with Firefox it is that .mac syncing only works with Safari.
