One for the guy's, do you put more effort into the "up stroke" or "down stroke"?

So girls, now I have you attention :p

Jeeze I hate painting wood work.
TBH I've not done any for years
Ive managed to avoid it for quite a few years.
But now I decided to bite the bullet and go for it.

All I can say is that I am grossly disappointed, in the paint, both cost and quality.

I wouldn't mind if I'd gone for a none de-script cheapo make but I went for Dulux,
as I've "normally" done in the past.

The stuff was like bloody water (I have an aversion to non-drip stuff)
And keeping a wet edge, even on a cool day like today was a nightmare.

I appreciate that covering a deep red with an off white, would require 2 coats.
Or a base coat. But the tin said "do not undercoat"
But it looked like the battle of the Somme by the time I'd finished.
I just hope coat #2 rectify's the matter.

I seemed to get on better using a constant "up stroke" rather than trying to "brush the marks out" with a sideways / up and down motion.
(as I have always managed in the past)

So, how do you eat brush yours?

Typical man....it's all about stroking it with you guys

I had made a little bet with myself, that a female would be the first to respond :p
My money was jointly on you and Trace (@Cg_Girl ) :D

Smart move! :-)

Hey Mr G!:wave::woot:

I feel your pain i am upto my eyes in paint! to the point i actually think they have inserted a 'peesh people off' additive to it all:mad:

My up and down strokes are equally messy, although being a shortie often means I make little impression on the up stroke and just slap my implement around at the peak and see what effect the down stroke has. Got my foot stuck in the bucket once and called it a day.

I have started to use a roller when painting, (all but the small areas) and only use trade paint. Problem is I forget what the rollers I use are called (can't be @rsed to go to the garage) but it isn't the cheep sponge type.
A bit like these: http://www.screwfix.com/p/harris-contractor-tight-woven-gloss-mini-roller-sleeves-4-pack-of-5/76322
I must admit that I am a bit reluctant (read old fashioned if you like)
I don't mind rollers for emulsioning the walls, but for a top coat on wood work, it just seems a bit "odd" to me.

Is trade paint that much better then?

I guess getting something stuck in a bucket, would have that effect :D

The mind boggles!!

Well Women know all about rollers :D

See, I told you this was mans talk, and yet women still appear in the thread.
What are we to do guy's? :p

Ohhhh I don't know.
Listen to the voices of reason amd do the job right? :sneaky:

Slapping your implement around?
How the hell are we meant to keep a straight face with that!
Least you didn't kick the bucket whilst said slapping :D

I prefer to listen to the voices in my head TBH.
They make a lot more sense than women :p

How the hell are we meant to keep a straight face with that!

My guess is that you aren't :D
(And another serious thread deteriorated :D)

Let's get one thing straight here....

It is solely your fault if this thread goes tits up or stroke up perhaps in this case..

With that kind of title we take no responsibility!

So there :P

I've never been allowed to do any painting, my wife insists on doing it all for me :)

And the opening words were "one for the GUYS"
And you claim not to be derailing a very sensible DIY question?
Hmmmm :D

Shall we await the technicolour results of your decorating then? :-)

She makes me do all the wallpapering though, giving it a good slap with my brush makes it all moist and slippy......

My mate is over from brazil, he's a painter and decorator. So far he's done kitchen, bedrooms, hallway....

You don't have to worry about hair Brazilian or otherwise with a roller

In answer to cobras question yes trade paint is better but yo do pay for it.

Oh absolutely, you've gotta get it moist, it slides better that way

I'll remember that in future (if there is a next time :D)

You can claim what you like, your 2nd line said it all :p
And being nosy, you had to continue reading AFTER I said for the guys :p

You started that line of conversation.
I just answered honestly :D

Wait...so the texture differs but the aroma remains?

My eww remains

Chris , you should know by now if you want a really thorough job doing quickly you should pay a professional - try to get one that knows what they are doing though, not one of these i'll do whatever you want for 50 quid types

My eww remains
No, you are getting ahead of yourself now.
All I mentioned was colour, not aroma :p
Mind you paint smells pretty bad too :(
