Tomorrow I stop smoking..........for good anyone have any tips to pass on to make it easier for me, I very rarely use pubs so that could be a good one now smoking in public houses is banned:thinking::lol:

I wish you the best and hope you succeed.
I've tried with meds from the GP and patches but sadly, I've always failed within a couple of weeks.
I'd suggest the NHS quit smoking scheme as I know a couple of people who have managed to quit this way.

Thanks Darran I am going to do it this time........its just right, I dont even enjoy it anymore I hate the taste and the coughing so its not ween off its simply quit and have done.
Going to save the last one for before bed and Eileen is out to work early and taking all means of buying some with her so thats gonna be it tomorrow I become a non smoker

I've been off them 3 months. I'd failed before on many attempts, nothing worked: patches, willpower, gum, zyban, nothing. A combination practically stopping drinking (normally failed when seeing friends smoke down the pub) and a new drug called champix has worked, though. I wish you luck!

To be honest I still smoke, :bang: we used those nicorette holders inhaler things with cartridges, they do work we gave up for 6 months, not 1 fag, and still craved, Ive not tried those electric cigs yet a friend has think their about £30, so not cheap, but its only 5 packs of cigs so worth a try, ryan air allow those in a special section on planes and great news for travellers from Manchester airport, ( soon for pubs me thinks) the smoking area is back, I hated not having a smoke for such a long time, sounds negative but if you can go without cigs for 18hrs in an airport and flight, and not bother, giving up should be easy, but personally for us its not, I hope you are strong enough to do it forever, instead of having a fag, make a post on this thread,

best of luck

Champix is the one I think the NHS quite smoking scheme prescribes.
I tried zyban twice and failed but my mrs quite the first time using it.
Part of the problem is really wanting to quit in my oppinion as the drugs take the nicotine craving away.
I've given the idea of quitting some serious thought recenty and for the exact same reason as you DM.

Sorry DM just testing you LOL rather than have a fag type faster ;)

We hope you can give up, I was only saying its hard, but with time it will come easier, my mum inlaw stopped as soon as she said never had a fag in 20yrs, and makes us go outside, so I guess its a individual thing'

Post on this thread if you feel the need, and we'll keep your fingers occupied

The only tip I can think of is to keep trying. I stopped a couple of years ago now after smoking for 40+ years. I tried everything you can think of...
Patches didn't make much difference, chewing gum tasted pretty horrible and my jaw ached from chewing it all the time. I got hypnotised... that was weird, but I still came out and lit a fag up. I came pretty close to stopping with those inhalator things but they were a bit like a dummy really. Every time I eventually started smoking again.

I guess I used pretty much everything that was available apart from will power (don't have any) and to be honest I quite liked smoking anyway. But eventually I tried the champix tablets which worked for me. I know they don't work for everyone, but I had no problem whatsoever.

It's not just a question of wanting to stop, because I'm still not convinced I was that bothered, but I got fed up of having to go out in the rain to have a smoke.
I suppose the trick is that you need to convince yourself that rather than depriving yourself of something you like you're actually doing yourself a favour by not smoking.

I don't know if any of that helps, but best of luck with it!

cheers

great Darren lets do this together mate if you are up for it:thumbs:

Indeed, lets keep this thread going for updates.
I will need the appoinment before I can quit but I am with you 100%
How about we both keep a jar / pot and put the money in that we would normally spend on fags into funds for camera gear?

Baccy for me as well.
Drum gold 25g @ around £5.50 per pack and go about 2.5 packs per week so thats £13.75 a week I will save.
1 month of quitting and that's the cokin p filters paid for.
A year of saving fag money and I will be able to fund a Canon 17-55mm IS f/2.8

Funny this thread came up after my 70 years old mum had suddenly decided to stop smoking last week after being a smoker for as long as I've been around (I'm 42).
And my, the house is already smelling so much fresher and it's a joy not having to hoover up her fag ash around her favourite sofa every day at the end of the day.
I was expecting her to start biting bits off the carpet rug as she craves fpr a fag but she's being remarkably calm about it, but then again she is getting free nicotine patches and "pretend" plastic cigarette thingys on the NHS.
She may be saving a fortune on roll up 'baccy, but I'm already making a saving on not buying as much glade products! In fact, I've heard that their profits has been well down in the past few days.
All the best on your quest.

I was a 20 a day smoker and about 8 weeks ago I bought an electronic cigarette and decided to cut down slowly. I am down to around 5 a day (2 yesterday, none last sunday). The first e cigarette I used wasn't very good but I have search the web and read reviews and now got the e cigarettes I am happy with. I now enjoy these more than an ordinary cigarette, they are a fraction of the price without any of the harmful contents. The only problem I am going to have is giving them up, I enjoy them so much. I use refill cartridges with liquid refills that come in dozens of flavours and different nicotene levels, so maybe my next move will be fruit flavour with no nicotene. I am happy to advise anybody on the type to use, dependant on there habits. At the moment I buy mine from http://www.theelectroniccigarette.co.uk great service and good prices.

Tomorrow I stop smoking.........

If you are serious about it. Stop now.... and destroy that remaining cigarette. Don't smoke it.

And don't mess about with those stupid electronic cigarette things. They just keep the idea of smoking in your mind much like artificial sweeteners keep the idea of sweet drinks in your mind so you still like the sensation of the thing you are trying to give up.

Good luck.

Steve.

Those 'stupid electronic cigarette things' as you call them may save the lives of many hardened smokers who have tried other options and failed. I'm sure we all wish we could just give up and think no more about it, but in reality this is not possible for millions of smokers world wide. If people are given an alternative to the harmful tobacco and carcinogenic chemicals that cause so many early deaths then I don't consider them stupid.
If people want to give up then any product like these that helps them cannot be considered stupid.

But they don't really make you give up, they just substitute one thing for another. Then one day, a cigarette will be offered and you will take it without thinking as you still have the craving for it.

I think that iof you want to give up, you should do just that.

Steve, I agree with what you say in that they are a substitute. Nicotine is the addictive chemical which people have trouble giving up. That is why nicotine patches and other alternatives are available on the NHS for people who have tried to just stop but have been unable to. With the electronic cigarette it gives you the option of cutting down steadily on the addictive nicotene. At that point the choice of either giving up, or continuing to smoke a nice fruit flavoured alternative to sweets is not driven by nicotene addiction.

Don't knock them Steve, they are helping many thousands of people find a healthier way of living.

It sounds like you've never been a smoker and good for you.
If the electronic cigarettes help some people to quit nicotine then good for them, hopefully, they will be able to quit using the flavoured gels as well.
We need this thread for peope to positive not negative.
It's going to be hard enough for DM & I as it is so please keep it positive so we can use this thread for support.

Never. Apart from one puff on one once which made me wonder why anyone would ever have a second cigarette or even finish the first one.

Just putting across my opinion. My brother was in a similar situation a few years ago and said he was going to quit once he had finished the packet he had. I told him that if he was serious then he should quit now and destroy any cigarettes he had. He did just that and managed to give up there and then.

Again, good luck and I hope whichever method you choose works for you.

Ditto. I gave up 30 or so years ago after smoking from the age of 10ish; I was doing about 30/40 Embassy a day and more on a weekend. Then I met a guy at a commercial vehicle test station, who commented “You must have a good job to be able to smoke?” I told him I couldn’t as my first born had just arrived, he went on to tell me how he had packed it in by not stopping altogether but not having one for an hour whilst keeping an open pack in his pocket, then doing it for another hour and so on telling himself he could have one if he wanted, this went on until he felt he had lost the urge. He still had the open pack in his pocket, dried up they may have been but still there if he needed them. I followed his advice and now 30 plus years on I still have 16 Embassy in a box in the garage. The absolute urge takes years to go away particularly after meals and when you are waiting for friends in the pub, but eventually it becomes just a thought, a bit like the way you remember a grazed knee or hitting your thumb with a hammer, you don’t want to do that again.
