Hi All,

Can anyone suggest good quality, fast and reliable printers for images taken at corporate events. These need to be from camera or with very little pc effort as time is a serious factor.

I am using a Canon EOS50D which can be linked to be received to a Mac (I think, the Mac is my mates and he knows more about that part).

Also, the printers that won't require a mortgage when ink is required would be a bonus too.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

John

dye sublimation printers are where it's at, ignore inkjets completely. Hi touch 730ps is good and cheap though only 8*6 max and only available 2nd hand, and media's expensive (66p for 8*6). Anything else and you're looking £700ish for the printer and 50p and down per print.

I'm in Loughborough and can provide back end printing setup if you just need it for the odd one off, drop me a PM :)

They have not specified the size so I considered that a 4"x6" would probably be suitable.

I have looked into the Canon SELPHY CP780. Which is a dye-sub and prints work out about 26p and take about 45 seconds which would be fine. Even two of these running side-by-side would probably cover the events for now until I can justify one of the bigger units.

And you're right, that Fuji ASK-2500 would be nice but I may end up single if I run out and buy that right now.

I have 2 of the 6x4s and they're nice - not the fastest but nice - Cost me about £20 each

you can get the hiti 630 printers pretty cheap on the bay too, not sure as to print costs, think it's comparable. Bigger printers though.

I use a Canon Selphy 710 DyeSub. Only does 6x4s but they work out at about 17p each when the packs (paper and ink come as a set) of 108 come from 7dayshop (or did last time I bough a load). Prints from cards (or PictBridge) take about a minute. Mine has a built in card reader (doesn't like SDHC cards but handles most others apart from xD) or can be plugged into the camera (if it's PictBridge) via a built in cord or the camera's own dedicated cord if the plug's different.

I think 6x4's (and 7x5s to a certain extent) look cheap. I use 6x9, could do 7x5 for a spell then once you have made some money buy a bigger printer

costs me 33p a print for a 6x9 70p for a mount 4 p for a bag then whatever you want to put in in the line of fliers or cards. I also put stickers on the back so they can come back to me.

I use a hiti p510s, you could put more money to it and buy the p510si and a special wft that lets you print from the back of the camera using pict bridge

I intend to invest in a wft for shooting tethered to the laptop as I use a usb cable atm and it isn't amazing. Remember to shoot to card as well for a backup in case the tether falls over. LR can tell them apart pretty easily.

I wrote a tutorial on how to do it with eos utility and lightroom in the tutorials section

I agree. 6x4 is ok for a party for friends (which I used mine for) but for professional work you need bigger.
