Hello,

I have managed to get in touch with some models that will help me out with my photography.

No i dont want to use them in the studio and planned to go to an abandoned building nearby or even a hotel room, to vary the shots.

When others do this, do you always take a full lighting setup? couldnt imaein walking through a hotel with my lights.

How would i go about this from a starting block?

thanks

don't worry about it.. couple of stands, brolly, softbox or whatever you've got.. get stuck in.

talk to the receptionist and explain what you're doing - ask to see a few different rooms so you can decide which has the best space / window lighting for ambient / furnishings.

... and they'll think you're shooting a porno.

just walk in...

what i was thinking was using flashes rather than my studio lights and putting the flashes on stands and then using reflectors to improve the light, probably a more portable and discreet option.

any other suggestions?

thanks

I'm slightly confused here because you mention abandoned buildings and then hotels.

I've shot in abandoned buildings - it's dangerous and there's no power so you'll want portable gear. Maybe a Safari or some speedlights.

As for hotels well.....why would the hotel care? If you're paying for a room and not disturbing other guests then most places are pretty cool. If I stay overnight then I often bring a _lot_ of kit from the car anyway. Only time it ever attracts comment is when one of the desk staff is into photography.

If you're really worried then just take a big suitcase. You can get lots in them, they have wheels and in the nicer places somebody will carry it to your room for you.
