Hi everyone,

I was not too sure where to post this so I have started here.

Has anyone tried any on line courses to improve skills and get feedback?

I have tried camera club competitions this year, but they tend to get a bit samey and you do not get the chance to discuss the feed back. I did like the fact that competations made you take photographs of subjects you might not normal try.
Cheers Alex

When I were but a callow youth, I signed on for a correspondence course with the 'New York Institute of Professional Photography', for a Diploma course.

It cost an arm and a leg, and I was poor, and I got the diploma after a couple of years. It was of course, 35mm. It was well supported with written and taped lessons on casette, with a huge amount of written reference documents. There was an assignment every moth or so, which you shot, and sent the cassettes to your tutor, who developed them, and sent the prints back with his constructive and any critiscism, which was always helpful. If he passed you, you started the next assignment. I was a complete novice when I started, but I enjoyed the course, and my photography improved in leaps and bounds. I joined a camera club, and won the best photograph for 3 years running. I've won nothing since. I don't think I was a brilliant photographer, but I knew what was necessary to progress beyond what were mostly just good snaps.

I've seen the same sorts of course offered in many places on the internet. They offer similar courses, but with more modern techniques, using digital media. Some are just about free, others, very expensive.

This site offers critical assessment, which is truly all you need. You'll find loads of articles dealing with handling and equipment, and technique. Give it a go!

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I was not looking for something too expensive, I saw plenty on line but you are never too sure if they are any good or not, hence the question. Also the camera club made me take subjects I would not have normally considered.

I had not thought about using here, but now you have mentioned it I might give it a go.
Might be an idea for the site, it is nice to have a bit of structure to work through and if you can get honest feedback that must help improve.
