Yes
Ive not really done a lot of on camera flash stuff but its useful knowledge for weddings and so on.

What mode do you normall have the camera on?
If Av do you use the shutter speed 1/60-1/200 option?
Do you keep it in ETTL and thats it or use the +/- option?
Or do you use it in manual?
If you have Auto ISO, do you use that or just set it to 100/200/400 etc?
For running and gunning, moving from inside to outside what settings do you usually have? (for a bright day, dim church)

Many thanks.

If Av do you use the shutter speed 1/60-1/200 option? No
Do you keep it in ETTL and thats it or use the +/- option? +/- is integral to E-TTL operation
Or do you use it in manual? When appropriate
If you have Auto ISO, do you use that or just set it to 100/200/400 etc?Set it
For running and gunning, moving from inside to outside what settings do you usually have? (for a bright day, dim church) Av E-TTL

Definately use the +/- option, it's sort of needed for certain situations
Or do you use it in manual? When it's appropriate, usually at the reception later on, 1/30, F4-5.6, ISO100. Or 1/60, F4-5.6, ISO200. (lets in some ambient and also well exposes for the subject)
If you have Auto ISO, do you use that or just set it to 100/200/400 etc? Dont have the option so set it

Hope that helps :)

Because I sometimes want 1/30 :p

But also because it's easy just to notice that your shutter speed is dropping and boost the ISO yourself. Makes you more aware of the settings you are using rather than just relying on technology.

Saying that, it's sometimes creative to take some really slow shutter speed shots with rear curtain sync, as the flash will freeze the person in the shot with some cool creative trails around them.

Thanks guys, why dont you use the 1/60 - 1/200 option?

The idea of using Av is to have the camera balance the ambient light and f/number with a long shutter speed, and for the flash to match the f/number with power output.

The only reason to use the 1/200-1/60sec option is to prevent too much movement blur in the background, or movement ghosting around the edges of the foregound subject lit with flash. The camera then makes the decision to let that go dark instead of allowing the shutter speed to track it down to whatever speed is necessary for correct exposure.

If you let it roll down freely, you can make that decision on an individual basis, and if you want to, knock it back a couple of stops on the minus compensation, or switch to manual if needs be.
