This weekend has been a bit of a baptism of fire. My significant other has been the press officer for a comic (yes as in spiderman) convention in Bristol. Well, you have heard of BOGOFS (Buy One, Get One Free) so guess who was volunteered as "official photographer"?
Now I have taken a few pics at these before but never in an official capacity. So what was it like?
Funny in places! They had a costume competition and being "professional" as I am I scouted the location and lighting in advance. I knew the movement of the entrants and where to get the best pics. Accompanied by the local press tog, we were all set up and ready to go.
Slight problem! Someone left the room projector on and it was projecting a very vivid blue light on the entire proceedings. Result? Competition entries that all looked like smurfs!
Being prepared?
Priceless!
But at least I did get a host of fab pics for the organisers over the weekend, hot though it was! I've been bouncing flash about and shooting at f2.8 on a 70-200 for fun. I've learned a whole lot too, had all sorts of mixed lighting to deal with and really learned to love my Sigma 70-200mm even more.
