My wife is going to go nuts when she sees it in the flesh, she's only seen pictures and thinks i've lost my mind :D

Pick it up on Saturday

Never thought I'd see that on the road again, they've done a good job!

Looks great, go and buy 5 bags of sugar tie them to your left foot and practice changing gear, be careful not to put your shoulder out closing the door, and your elbow gets a bashing too, and drive at a slight angle say towards the left, open the door to wind down the window as you bang your knee on every turn, and don't forget your earplugs when traveling at over 50mph, the lasting memories of my TD5:)

Not apres pub eBaying was it? :)

No i've been looking for one for a while, a mate has a 1/2 built project I was going to have a go at but I decided I didn't want to spend all my winter weekends in a freezing garage putting it back together.

When i'm finished with this one it's going to look like a massive Tonka toy :D

Hope you start with getting rid of the awful black paint on the number plate :D

Someone's been watching Wheeler Dealers...

Is that on sky, I don't have sky, what did they say

Stops the speeding fines, though that might not be a problem

looks a good base to work from, im looking for something similar, just alot shorter for offroading :D

what are the plans then?

It's a backup vehicle for my haulage business, my main pickup is 3 yrs old now but because I tow a trailer I need a tachograph.

when it was off the road for a new diff a couple of months ago I found nowhere rented anything at 3.5T with a tachograph despite them having towbars on so i've bought this as it's one of the few vehicles that can tow a 3.5T trailer.

Do you have the jacket with the leather elbows to go with it?
You also need the shot gun as well. You can start shouting at people get off my land whilst waving the shot gun around.
Im also going to start calling you Sir Darren from now on.
You will look like the lord off the manor with that and the jag parked up on the drive way.

to be "de rigeur" you need to mount the spare on the bonnet, and a hi-lift jack on the tailgate....

ah --heady days of off-roading a Series II SWB in Brecon Beacons.....

Lord Darren please

I might buy a deerstalker hat and some hunter wellies as well, you'll know it's me arriving at Oulton Park when it sounds like a tank coming as I crest the hill on the way to Brittains :D

No, no. Sports jackets with leather elbow patches are only for going to the pub. It stops them wearing out from leaning on the bar. You wear a Barbour in the country.

ROFL.
sooooo true.

Flat cap, fag, ladder. F Dibnah painted on door! :D

was it a bright yellow one, I found that one on youtube

No it was a blue 90? if I remember correctly, ended up looking very good in silver with alloy wheels and a little more power.

I bet you still miss it though

I miss my 90 (rolled it a few years ago and wrote it off).

nice.. id love a defender with jacked up suspension etc etc :D

Jacking them up is fine for serious off roading but can cause problems in the real world (No, that's not why mine rolled!)

Did they start with a written off blue one? I was very tempted to buy the wreck back and rebuild but didn't want the risk of finding bent/twisted chassis when stripping it down, OR the fact that it was written off screwing the resale value right down.
The only thing I don't miss is 20-25MPG!

I'm used to 20-25mpg as that's all my Iveco does anyway.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Awesome! You can do the driving to the rallys now :D Wont get stuck in that nor fly off hump back bridges :p

It's only got 3 seats and they're a bit compact , if me Ray and Steve go we'll have to take the doors off to get in it :D

Hey Matt we've got something in common now, I just got a 2k insurance quote for it :D

Looks a bit long.

You want to see it now it's got the hardtop back on, it looks massive

Well I drove it back from Cambridge to Warrington today, I can best describe it as unusual, with the hard top on it has the handling characteristics of a barge, 60mph was attainable but anything over that was a bit scary to say the least.

I think it'll improve with the top off and in any case the suspension is getting replaced as i'm uprating it to 3500kgs but I don't think it'll end there

its a HICAP aint it. should have the heavy duty suspension on the rear already
probably old and tired now though.
replace the suspension bushes with the nylon items. makes a big difference to raod manners.
check your rear axle balljoint too.

It needs a few things doing, there's some driveline shunt in 1st and second, the steering has more play in it than i'd like and you can't put it in 1st while it's moving or it crunches.

according to the plate it's GVW is 3050kg so it doesn't have the stiffer springs or it'd be 3500kg

Awesome...congrats on your purchase...

I never know if you're being serious :D

The guy that sold it to me is a farmer and couldn't be more helpful, after we'd agreed a sale price he rang me and said the cambelt needed changing, it was nowhere near the miles but over the time period due for replacement so he knocked another £100 off and has offered to contribute to any safety parts required when I get it MOTd so I think i've done OK

I wasn't expecting to get a mint vehicle and I know it'll want some money throwing at it but i'm happy with it.

Now that's a real car... made out of pieces of old warship, not like these plastic contraptions you get nowadays.
