Yes to day myself and Eileen witnessed an air crash we will post the shots as soon as we find out what the local news doesnt want:thumbs:

Nose gear collapse on a C152. Not uncommon unfortunatly. They take a beating from all the training they do and eventually give way.
 
Rooting for truffles?
 
Fortunately no one hurt and it was a VERY heavy landing by an inexperienced student I have just given an interview to the local news and yes tomorrow my shots will make the front page but they have added a bit to the story I am not very happy about though.....newspapers eh

Oh my goodness! At first i thought you meant one of those big jet planes :O. What have they added. But yeah typical newspapers!!
 
We told them the plane ballooned which means it came in to low then the nose lifted to get it over the trees then the nose drops causing the heavy landing which didnt seem to do any damage, it was the second nosedive that caused the actual crash totalling the plane yet the newspapers say it lost power when we clearly heard the engine running at its normal landing revs

if you can get in touch with the tower at Sandtoft (look for the big yellow C) and tell them what you saw and show them the pictures, the AAIB will be interested

Good job it's half term otherwise the journalists would have added that it narrowly missed a school before it plunged into the runway .... what planet are these people on?

Ballooning means that the pilot allowed the aircraft to climb again after the flare or bounced and the pilot did not recover correctly i.e back into the correct landing attitude and allow the aircraft to settle. Usually caused by too higher an approach speed. If this isn't done correctly the aircraft will usually settle back on the nose wheel. And you can see the result. Good shots by the way.

Believe it or not the calmest person there was the pilot....I must admit the noise got to me it was awful and watching it you do expect the worst but he simply climbed out then reached in for his flight bag and earphones waved to us and went off for his debrief or is that a de BRIEFS :lol:

By the way the moment this happened I was chatting to an elderly gent of 81 yrs young and deaf who didnt even know this was happening so I used his low shoulder as a lens rest and once he realised he dissapeared into his car and away not much time to compose any of the shots but not bad for point n shoot
 
It could be many things that caused it to collapse. 99% of the time it is a ballooned or heavy landing. It could have been a previous pilots unreported heavy landing that did the damage. One thing I have learnt over the years and that is, be VERY cautious about speculating as to the cause of an accident. All part of the learning experiance.
 
Sorry if you think I may be speculating Dave I am just saying it as we saw it
 
The ol cessnas are made like tanks :p At my old flying school, someone on cross country solo was doing a full flaps approach in a Cessna 152. He decided to do a go around metres above the ground but he stalled it and cartwheeled the plane. Once the plane had bounced from the airfield into a farmers field he just got out of the plane with nothing more than a cracked rib! insane.

Good shots there, good to hear the pilot is Ok.

Thanks for ALL comments as you all know your heart sinks into your ass when something bad happens and I couldnt concentrate I just pressed the shutter and hoped

Cheers Andy and you were correct on one thing incorrect on another.....Im still a pauper lol

Shame that one with the wheel flying off was oof, could have been a cracker :lol:
 
Its definately not Paul its safe as houses as most pilots do favourite it and ATC is excellent it has just had 4 accidents 1 of which shouldnt be related as it was 3 miles away and 2 which were very minor due to weather and braking and this one which is really Sandtofts first real accident for years so not really its a safe airfield

Only reason I missed a couple was a bloody old....erm elderly chap trying to chat to me
