What an amazing sight. I heard a helcopter in the distance and didnt think much of it. Heard it ger reallly loud so decided to open the front door and there they were!!! What a sight :D:D:D I didnt grab my camera, thouugh :(

But WOW!!!!

I better get on the blower and tell them to get you in their cross-hairs . . .

I was in the middle of a dressage test once and one came across quite close - what a racket - luckily it did not come directly over the showground or there would have been a fair few peole sitting on the floor!!!
Next time grab the camera then run for the door :D

come down to the coast the marines do their parachute tests so if you have a long lens you can get a bunch of people jumping out of a helicopter just after they've pushed a big speed boat off...:D impressive stuff

Remember the Camera next Matt....

That image reminds me of a rescue mission in Iraq where they left a soldier behind accidentally and had to go back to get him in hostile fire, they didn't even open the door, he sat on the helicopter somewhere. Does anyone remember that?

I remember that, wasn't he sat on a rocket or missile of some form!!

A couple of years ago I was working on an estate in the highlands and I was driving up the hillside when a Chinook came through the valley, pretty much level with me, and landed in the valley below. I couldn't stop to take pics because I was driving over some difficult terrain and would've got stuck :(

A couple of weeks after I was on the same estate sitting on top of a hill and a big helicopter of some sort (no ID skills I'm afraid) came by at eye level so close that I waved at the pilot and he waved back :D

I used to have some really exciting days at work.

Was at silverstone last year for the F1 and while we were waling across the inside of the track we saw one come in and land. When the pilot saw me taking some photos it started showing off a bit before landing. It was amazing I really love these helicopters.

I was told that during the first Gulf war they sent 38 into the war and 37 came back with the one they lost being crashed due to human error and not enemy fire.

Anyway here's a couple of pics from the one at silverstone :D

There was a programme on Discovery about how they make them, and all the complex systems and mechanicals that goes into one. Amazing machines, they really are.

I was working on a guy's car in a village just outside Ipswich last year when there was suddenly a huge burst of noise as an Apache flew right overhead, it scared the be-jesus out of me! Apparently there is an American base somewhere near and they are a regular site.

I thought it looked threatening enough just pottering about the countryside, you can see why the Taliban run scared when they tip up, more so when the business end is firing things at them.

The sharp end at last years Farnborough Show:

Amazing machines, even better when they're not piloted by the yanks

Yeah :p plus ours are faster and have more powerful Rolls-Royce engines too. They are fearsome pieces of kit! I have a pic of my bro sitting in/on one when it landed at his base.
