I bought an OM1 last year which I love, but then ended up taking a bit of a break from photography as I was starting a new college course. I got the camera out the other day and the light meter seems to be functioning intermittently, there was a time when I left it switched on accidently so I was wondering if the battery had run down. Does anyone have any ideas about where I could find a new battery? :)

I must also add that I love the camera and much prefer using it to using my DSLR now, if I could afford the developing (I've got the things to do b&w myself but lack time at the moment :() I'd shoot film all of the time :D

The standard replacement is a 625a alkaline battery for this camera. sorry forgot to say e-bay.

I've just lifted this from an earlier post as it saves me typing it all out again.

I use these adapters in my old Olympus, Rolleis and Nikons from this guy

About £4 each, I bought 4, brilliant quick delivery and very helpful. Batteries are included with the adapter then you can just buy the hearing aid batteries from Boots and re-use the adapter.

That is a very useful link, thanks:thumbs:

Do not use the Alkaline battery it is the wrong voltage.
Use the adapters mentioned above are the way to go.. The ZA675 zinc air hearing aid batteries are only about 50p ea on ebay. and are the correct voltage.
They do not last as long as the original mercury cells so change them regularly say every six months.

Very true and sound advice, however some light meter are not voltage sensitive and a current 1.5 volt alkaline will only fluctuate down to 1.3 volts not higher, but essentially what you say is correct, one question on your suggestion, can you use the hearing aid battery without the adapter that was posted earlier.

I tend to make up my own with old film in a roll/tube, with watch batteries and silver foil to make things fit... as above though, watch the voltages - better under than over.

No ... you will need the adapter... I just ordered one ... You pay by paypal and you get the adapter and one battery for about £5. There after you just need the batteries. I still have a couple of mercury cells for my OM1 ... they last for years unused. I suspect the adapters will become hard to get one day so I bought one to keep in the camera Bag.

Perfectly timed thread!!

Just ordered a battery and adapter from paulbg for my 'new' OM-1N.
