I had a search, sorry if this has already been done!

Seeing as everyone else has one, I thought I'd make a thread for all the Olympus / Panasonic guys. I have an E420, which I chose for its lightness and compactness.

I have an E-510 but I'm still figuring out how to use it atm. I'm loving it so far though.

Cool stuff! plenty of helpful people around to help you with any problems you have on here :)

Hey there... welcome... don't forget to have a look on the e-system forum for even more Oly and 4/3rds users than here.

Too many canikonites here, they always insist on spoiling the fun... hehehe :)

Im on E-system as well mate ;)

and i had a little 'el oh el' at Canikonites :D

Hey guys, im also an E system forum user and the owner of an E510.

Be interesting to see how a four thirds thread takes off on here.

Maybe I can start the thread off by asking why you decided upon four thirds ?

I chose Olympus because ALL the reviews I read that commented on kit lenses said that Olympus produced the best kit lenses.

I am not able financially to upgrade my glass when I feel like it so needed a system that was capable of producing the best possible images with the kit lenses alone.

You see quite a lot on here posts where Canon or Nikon owners look to upgrade their kit lenses quite soon after purchasing the camera, whereas I would simply add to my kit lenses and not replace them with better glass of the same focal length.

There are some excellent lenses available for Oly and other 4/3rds users, and at very reasonable prices too. Try having a google for the Oly 70-300mm lens, and the Oly 35mm Macro - both on sale at around the £200-£250 mark.

The 70-300mm is quite an exceptional lens, and is capable of some stunning results - and I have a mate who bought one on the net for sub £200.

My decision was a combination of price and size/wieght. My E420 cost me just under £300 for the kit (Staff discount ;) ), and I really liked the compactness and lightness of the camera. Finding out how good the Zuiko Digital lenses were after was a bonus, if only my wallet could afford it!

So yeah, I ended up with an E420 with a 17.5-45, a ZD 40-150mm, tripod, 2GB Lexar 80x CF Card, 4GB SanDisk ExtremeIII 30mb/s, and a decent enough Olympus E-System back for not too much over £400!

Hiya - before we can offer advice, we would need to know a little more about what you want to take photo's of.

What is it that you want to do...? What pictures do you wish to take...? Do you know about depth of field...? Do you like Macro...?

Perhaps in your own separate tread you might like to answer some of these questions and we'll be able to offer more specific advice for you. There's lots of people here willing to lend a hand, and the E-510 is a more than capable camera so we'll have you in A or M mode very soon!! :)

E-1, E-3 & E-420 Here with lenses (25mm Pancake, 14-54, 12-60SWD, 50-200SWD, 50mm Macro, 35-100mm F2, :D, Sigma 150mm Macro, TC14, EX25). Ended up with Olympus after a brief time with a 40D (Which i just could not get on with )

Love the ZD Glass, the Pro and Top-Pro stuff out-resolves the best out there, and is sharp right to the edge of the frame

Hi there
Have a GOOD read through this

http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/43/e510-rev.html

Probably the best E510 guide out there and it will give you all the best settings to get the best out of your camera. Enjoy.

Excellent link mate, the majority of that applies to the E410/E420 as well :)

Nothing wrong with the E500. It uses the Kodak sensor and has one of the nices colour outputs of any of the E-system cameras.

thanks chillimonster. i've not used it in anger yet but i was a bit disapointed with my messing around shot. i also have a new lcd screen on my pc. not sure if it is set up right so may be the screen i am disapointed with.

What dont you like about them? Upload a couple mate ;)

at work at the moment. will upload later today or saturday.

Hi. I have E510 with it's DZ kit lenses, filters, just ordered Ownuser battery grip, and waiting for Peleng 8mm fisheye lens for it. Saving for some UW lens too, but prices of ZD lenses are just too high. Any other third-party lenses to take'em in consider?
Thinking of buying M42 Mamiya 135mm/2.8 lens, as they're really cheap now, and they are excellent lenses.

the first pic if from my new e500

both shots were taken at the same time both in auto. i know auto, it was for the comparison.

Striking difference between the two images there...

I have a 510 and the two kit lenses, plus a couple of OM lenses.

I keep looking at the e1/14-54 combos on fleabay. I've seen a couple that have gone for not much more than £300.

Its good to hear that the 70-300 is agood lens - I've been thinking about that as well

A sublime combonation, with the sweetest shutter soound ever.

I bought one a while agao to compliment the E-3, and its a FANTASTIC bit of kit that was way ahead of its time. Only 5MP, but they are all good ones :)

One of mine from its last outing......

Arrived today Ownuser batterygrip for my E510, I'm really happy with it. It came with wirelles remote control, working great, fits in the hand just perfect. USB connector doesn't bother alot, but ISO button is slightly covered with it. That's only negative side. I recomend to every E510 user to take in consideration this grip.
