Olympus ORF(RAW) file will not open in PSE9

I'm told 'Wrong type of file'

But Panasonic RW2(RAW) will, now there's funny.

Any ideas.

What model olympus is it and what model Panasonic is it? I'll bet the Olympus is a more recent one?

Photoshop/elements raw file compatibility is only maintained for new cameras for each version for a limited period, then they stop adding compatibility for new cameras so you have to buy a newer version of the software. There is a sticky thread somewhere on here with a compatibility list, have a look see where PSE9 supports your Olympus camera.

Try converting it with the latest version of adobes free DNG converter (that converts the raw file to a sort of adobe raw) I suspect Adams right.

I have tried installing Camera Raw 7.1 but it will not let me, because I'm running PSE9 I suppose.

I suspect there is no way around this other than to upgrade to PSE 10.

Yeah, I've just checked the sticky thread and the EM-5 compatibility is added in ACR 6.7 which isn't supported by any elements version earlier than 10.

This approach from adobe has always struck me as quite shoddy given the amount you can have payed for the software. But as Wayne said, you should be able to convert the .ORF files to DNG with the most recent DNG converter, and those should open in elements 9, which at least still gives you the flexibility of a raw file until you can upgrade the software.
