Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

Cheers Nik.

I've had the 3 common sensor sizes and M4/3 is the sweetspot for me.

Especially now AiDenoise is so good.
Yep, ive had full frame, aps and m4/3. I just enjoyed my olys more.
AiDenoise, software or built into the camera? Sorry been out of touch for a good few years

Hi All.

New recruit here - picked up an OM-1, 100-400mm, 60mm and MC-14 today :)

First impressions - the camera handles nicely, fast focus, not too heavy with the 100-400. Took a few shots in poor light (see below) - I would say they are fairly sharp but not amazingly so... any thoughts welcome - are these about what I should expect given the conditions (iso5000 for one and 4000 for the other)?

A few more with OM-1 and 100-400 - the macro capability is great, very pleased with the close-up shots - the birding shots are good but am not completely blown away as yet (maybe I was expecting too much). The below shots are some of the best so far.

I will try and be more active now this diploma is done.

I have also set myself a Flickr page and Adobe portfolio page up as I don't really post my images anywhere other than here (now and again). Perhaps it will get me motivated to do something with them

I need to look at printing some of these for the house and office. No idea how printing works and sizes. Can you only print JPEG files?
No, any file format. I generally, but not exclusively, print from Tiff, but occasionally from RAW files.

If printing outside, check which file type(s) the printing company accepts and their advised (minimum) resolution.
NB latterly for some years I have only gotten mine printed by @Tradecanvasprint though I do print a few test prints at home.

If printing at home you have more options to experiment.

Do you print from home though?

I would need a lab of some form
In which case you should ask the lab. They may not all have the same requirements

If that’s the update with the synch I.s then it’s definitely going to improve things

Ah ok. I did just check but I am already on 1.7.

I am keen to see what the AF differences are between the OM1 and OM1.2

Are they that different?
Im not noticing that much to be honest. I had hoped the mkii would be up there with sonys when AF'ing on dragonflies in flight but i didnt see any improvement from the mark 1 on my scottish trip. I ended up having to try manual focus on spots to get flight stuff.

I'm waiting to see what the next OM1 will bring to the table (in however many years time). I currently have the two OM1 mark 1 bodies and I'm happy with them. The AF is so much better than my Lumix FF stuff was that I feel like I'm at the top of the AF pyramid already lol

I find the mki fine for dragonflies in flight ,just use CAF and bird I.d and it gets them that’s using the 300 f4 though

Yeah anything hovering infront of a clear background and that exact setup got alot of my sharp dflies in flight. In scotland tbf to the om1 mkii i was trying to get difficult ones that refused to stop, were v quick and all in front of busy backgrounds. I probably just hoped for a massive improvement over the mki on that front but because it couldnt do it it was same as mki not able to do it either .

I was only thinking about the OM1.2 because I have a birthday coming up and with prime day you never know. Could sneak one off Amazon for like £1.5k or something. But if you are saying it isn't that much better, then I don't think I'll bother.

Buy it now and save over 100 quid.

I got one because i needed a second body and second hand om1s were going for 800-900 and i got my mkii new for 1329 so it was a no brainer to get the newer version tbh

Trapped in by the TT races today so had a mooch around the garden. I should do it more as there's so many tiny insects that I would never have seen if I wasnt addicted to trying to take macro photos. :)

What a beauty!

I've been using an OM1 (Mk1) for several years now with an OM5 (Mk1) as a back up. I've hardly used the OM5 at all but when I have used it I find the files need far more processing to achieve results I'm happy with than the OM1 files . Is that something I should expect?

Due to ongoing neck problems I've bought an OM-1 ii and the OM 100-400 ii to try.
It is lighter than my Z8 with 100-400 (or 600 PF - same weight) but the lens feels heavier than expected.

I see that the Panny lens is lighter and that would no doubt help.

I bought the OM version because of Sync VR and also because it is an OM lens on an OM body.

Has anyone tried both and is the Panny as good or nearly as good?

I haven’t tried ether of them, but your reasoning re sync IS is a sound one. I’m sure the Panasonic will be optically excellent, but in my opinion they don’t seem quite as well built. But that’s just my feelings, with no concrete evidence to support it.

I do not have the OM5 but could it be slightly different processors or in camera processes?

Thinking perhaps the newer sensor has better qualities?
