Very nice Jeff - they're lovely little birds, always seem to be in small flocks.
OM-3, anyone…?
By degrees interesting but also underwhelming.
I note that there are now more "subjects" in the subject detection. On the surmise that they have improved this mode overall......I hope that they update the OM1 and OM1mk2 to accommodate the 'improvements'? NB I have just cross checked and note that on the webpage specs the same list of subjects are the same .....so unclear to me what that might infer.
- Named OM3 as I surmised to fit between the OM5 and the OM1
- Uses the same sensor & battery as the OM1
- Though it has subject detection and number of AF points as the OM1 they have dropped Pro-Capture function
- IMO aimed at the 'cool' kids re: retro style & presets and Computational Photography (much touted on smartphones these days).
- Only about 4oz lighter than the OM1 and if paired with the 100-400 mk11 will IMO be poorly balanced?
I didn't see all of these subjects as separate selectable choices, IIRC the ones in bold I don't recall seeing..... can't recheck right now. Motorcycle in italics because that might have been there
Aircrafts, Birds, Bullet trains, Cats, Dogs, Formula cars, Helicopters, Motorcycles, Ralley cars, Standard trains, Steam locomotives, Human

In Pro Capture mode, the camera supports continuous shooting at up to 120fps with single AF or 50fps with continuous AF.
Ah! it was not (unless I missed it) on the Specs listing......but I wonder does it have the level of settings and control of the Pro Capture that the OM1 benefits from.
I can't answer that.I wonder does it have the level of settings and control of the Pro Capture that the OM1 benefits from.
So true.....?They surely need to hold something back from the spec sheet to avoid killing OM-1 sales?

Why bring out a travel/street orientated body that is the same size as their other pro cameras. Surely the market is for a metal bodied update of the Pen F or E-M5 ii.
Something the cheapie hollow feeling plastic OM-5 definitely wasn't. Can't see a market for this at 1600 quid apart from a limited number of fanbois and fashionistas.
I was a bit too over the top with the fanbois bit, but still not convinced its the right design.Jut to counter the fanboi/fashionista thing. I think it's worth mentioning that some people (including myself) just like tactile, good looking designs. It's a user experience thing that goes beyond just photo taking ability. The last thing you would call me is fashionable and my commitment to OM fanboism is pretty pathetic too. I do want an OM3 though.
I'm not sure ultimately how big a hit this will be though. For all the love online for the Pen-F, they didn't actually sell all that well. But retro/classic styling does give this camera some appeal that it simply wouldn't have otherwise had.

My E-M5ii is past its best and really hoped this might be an ideal replacement, tried the OM-5 and wasn't at all impressed.
This new one is just too big and not what people like myself and (I think) those wanting a Pen F mk2 really hoped for.
Did it really have to be that wide, can see its to accommodate the big battery, but still?
I have had a look and they have yet to release(?) the user manual to downloadMy E-M5 iii has pro-cap so I think was a given that this would have had it. Maybe as you say, they have perhaps throttled it back a touch to differentiate it from the OM1 II. Or maybe they're holding back some new tech for an inevitable OM1 III.
A Flicker Of Light by SkylineEM1 MK2Hi folks. Hope this is the right place for my query.
I’m a Nikon shooter, although I have shot Fuji in the past.
Recently I’ve been considering switching to a lighter setup to what I have. Have considered Fuji and Olympus.
I’m very impressed with the focus stacking capabilities of the Olympus/OM system and it looks like no other system comes close in this regard. I’m not yet ready to jump entirely across to Olympus as I’m totally unfamiliar with the system and also because macro makes up only a small part of my photography - but would like to test the waters at least.
What would be a decent used option for me in the range, camera-wise? Something that would (initially anyway) be used exclusively for macro.
Thanks.

I was thinking the EM-1 mk3 if budget allows?EM1 MK2

The em-1mkii suffers one horrible problem the grip rubbers come off frequently ,cured with the em-1mkiii so that would be my choice if buying
Updated lens roadmap
The upcoming mid range white zoom it seems is more than 'vapourware'
Hmm! impression from that......looks like a large aperture "white" alternative to the 40-150 f2.8......i look forward to seeing the specs e.g. built in TC like it's bigger brother and will be optically as good with a x2 TC attached???
Agreed, my 40-150 f2.8 is superb with or without TC attached. It's going to have to be b*****y good to be a lot better than the existing 40-150mm Pro !!

knight in white satin by jeff cohen, on FlickrA sensible solution peat I, looked at a e.m1x as a second body ,but have discounted the idea due to the weight . Will probably go down the same route as you once available funds build up a bit . Quite amazed at how good the mki body is with older FT lenses to and having just bought a 60 mm macro hand held stacking is possible toI felt like i needed a second body for this years insect / wildlife season coming up but was looking at second hand om1 prices and they seem to have gone back up to 1k. I started looking at the mkii. (I was never getting that at 2k no way). Panamoz had it for 1500 which was still a bit high but then i found it at 1329 new at cotwolds cameras!![]()
So Ive ordered a mkii. That will be used with the 300mm f4 for birds and further distance insects like dragonflies / butterflies and my old om1 mk i will have the 90mm on it permanently.
I just need to figure out a good carrying system for both cameras. Having one over each shoulder I dont think is going to work very well.
