Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

Thank you Stephen and Rich, I’ll check that out, but it isn’t a consistent change. When I started out this morning Exposure Compensation worked as it should, then half way through our walk, it just reverted to messing with the focus points.
I’ll see how easy that switch is to move.
Thank you again
Just wondering if one of the buttons is configured to “set home” or something like that and it’s been accidentally pressed?

Good thought, never had an E-M5 iii, but presumably there is a button setting to centre/adjust the the AF point.
I suppose the best bet might be reset to factory default, that would clear any accidental settings.

Finally got around to edit the thumbnail I posted a couple of weeks ago 1st time I used train tracking on the OM-1 along with 40-150 Pro how did we mange years ago with a manual camera:D:D:D

A few from the somerset levels this week OM1 and the 150-400 thought I would try out the lightroom de noise feature for the first time

this one was taken at ISO 8000 400mm F4.5 1/500 in the woods during the thunderstorm that caused chaos locally

This one was ISO 12800 338MM F4.5 1/1000

This one was at ISO 5000 700mm (1.4 tc added) F8 1/500 and is a record shot light was really poor and quite frankly I was pushing my luck will be going back to the hide and look to improve the quality

@mazdaman - they look good to me.
i have tried the LR denoise and to my eye it is very good. But really slow on my PC, whereas toaz Denoise is much faster
I found the lightroom denoise pretty quick I do have a 32gb graphics card and a decent ryzen chip which helps I will probably test them both denoise and lightroom to see how much time difference there is.

I have say that lightroom denoise cleaned up the squirrel and bird image really well considering one at 8000 iso and 12800 iso let's hope further lightroom updates improve the denoise function

I made some new bird boxes over the winter and a couple of tits took a liking to one of them.
To get these photos I put my olympus em10 mark ii on one of those small flexible tripods with rubber non slip legs. Then attached it to the top of the patio door. I opened up the door so it was about 4-5ft away. Now for the bit I love, easy to do too. Set up iPad and camera up via the oly app so the tablet is a screen/remote for the camera. Sat in the front room and watched the birds come and go close up. They wasn’t bothered about the camera at all (I had it on silent).

So there you go, home made bird box with the photo captured by an iPad. Lens was 45mm and photos cropped.

Don’t you just love technology :)

Excellent work. That’s a brilliant idea, it’s certainly given me some ideas in the garden myself.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi all, long time Nikon user here, shooting mainly landscape and a bit of wildlife and macro. Loving the shots on this thread :)

I've just ordered a OM-1, 7-14mm f2.8 pro and 12-100mm f4 pro. Eagerly awaiting delivery!

Any recommendations for a battery charger? I notice the Olympus (or whatever they're called now!) one is a bit on the pricey side.

And also, any L brackets that fit this camera out there?

For some reason the Chinese manufacturers don't seem to be producing an L-plate specifically for the OM1. There's still plenty available for the Em1 series though.

I looked at various options when I got my OM1. I'm sure the RRS plate is superb but that price made me wince. I tried the 3 legged thing Ellie Short and it fits OK but because it doesn't cover the whole of the baseplate the camera falls over when you put it down onto a flat surface. The Nisi universal plate looks a bit longer so it may be better in that respect.

My solution was to adapt the base plate I was using on my EM1.2, although it doesn't include the vertical section. It was an easy fix and took about 10 minutes - said the guy who did it for me. If you look at post 24 on this thread you'll see how it was done.

Took a early morning trip out to RSPB Greylake a 30 minute trip from home Greylake is great for winter birds and can seem quiet at certain times of the year its a reserve that rewards if you put the time in always difficult to photo marsh harriers as they tend to stay some distance from the hide but if if everything was so easy with photography think we wouldn't relish the challenge. As part of my wanting to improve my BIF skills for 2023 I have decided to set at least two days per week to try and get out and gain more experience all taken on the OM1 and 150-400

The Bittern below was playing hardcore popped its head once in a hour unfortunately for me it was a opportunistic shot and the AF decided to focus slightly in front of the bittern I had hoped the Bittern would take flight but nope decided to stay put I guess there is always the next time!

According to 43 Rumors, OM Systems have just launched a minor firmware update (Version 1.5) for the OM-1. No doubt it will officially get pushed out to OM Workspace in the next couple of days. Here are the apparent updates:
  • Improved operational stability during digital shift shooting.
  • Improved the stability of AF operation during movie shooting.

More playing with the 300.
I havent got a 1.4tc yet but am happy with the reach so far and dont feel like I have lost anything from the 100-400 although I havent shot many birds yet.

We were recently away on a cruise round the western Mediterranean on which I just used my OM-5 and 12-100mm. I wondered about the spread of focal lengths I'd been using so pulled the data into a spreadsheet and made a chart. The big spikes at 12mm and 100mm should tell me something.... The gaps in the focal lengths must be due to the granularity of what the lens is reporting to the camera rather than my accuracy at selecting a given focal length. Just over 60% of the shots are in the traditional 24-70mm (equiv) range.
