Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

Yeah I got it from E-infinity. £1919.00 delivered and the battery and charger from Park Cameras. I have used E-infinity for a lot of my gear over the years and registered bought items with Olympus so dont have a problem using them. The OM-1 has since gone up to £1939.00. It is annoying that I had one on order from LCE for £1999 back in late Feb but they couldnt get them or any info as to when they could fulfill the order so just cancelled my pre-order with them back along and got the mk3 so to have a camera to use for trip I had booked. before I cancelled they said I could be waiting till July so that made me get my £800 back and look elsewhere.
July!!! Oh no!! The last time I asked Wex, there was no news. Oh dear.

I have credit with Wex as I sold a lens to them as well as privately selling my Canon and my Em1ii - all to fund the OM1. I really wish I had just gone ahead and pre-ordered it straight away now and sold everything afterwards.

Anyone else interested in the new
Panasonic 9mm 1.7 ?

I’ve only ever used Olympus lenses on my Olympus bodies but 130g is very tempting !

I looked it up recently so I knew but I must have blinked because I've already forgotten how to use it. The trouble with these cameras is they do so much it's impossible to recall all but the most used features.
.... Never a truer word was spoken! I end up having handwritten notes in my pocket! The Instructional Manual is 3zillion pages and far too big to carry around in the field. I suppose a PDF copy could be loaded on a mobile phone but each page would be tiny to read and all very tedious.

They look like a raucous lot......though hopefully a successful brood as Starling numbers need all the help they can get.

I have a safari trip to Botswana planned for July. I have all the glass I need but only 1 body, an OM1. I don't really want to chance the trip without a back up camera but will rarely need two bodies. I have the opportunity of getting another OM1 or saving some money and getting a used MK111 of EMX - or indeed any other camera that takes Oly lenses. What would you recommend?
We went to Botswana 2 years ago and I took 3 bodies- 500, 100-400 & at-105 ( I had canon at the time) you do not want to change lenses when you are out due to dust and things happening quickly.
who are you going with and where are you going? happy to help if I can answer any questions
you WILL enjoy it!
cheers

Thank you for your response. I am going to the Pangolin site on the Chobe River. I am going with Steve & Ann Toon who are professional wildlife photographers that have been running safaris to Africa for many years. I went to Zimanga with them a few years ago. Until recently I was a Canon user but have now switched to Olympus. I will be taking 2 OM1 bodies and have a choice of lenses ranging from 7mm to 300mm f4. Which is 14mm to 600 inFF terms. I will also have a 1.4 and 2x converters.

.... The Jobu Jr3 Deluxe is great! Although much smaller than other gimbals it's just as strong. I use mine either mounted on a Platypod or a Skimmer.

We went with pangolin and they were superb. We stayed on their river boat and Kwai reserve. Their hotel looked fantastic in the brief time we were there before going on the boat (time for a beer). Their boats have great gimbals so you do not have to take your own enjoy and look forward to seeing some photos on your return. It will be difficult to change lenses especially on the trucks due to dust. FWIW I have a few posted on Flickr.

PS - top tip. Take some shower caps (from hotels) to protect your lens from the dust

.... That's a helpful suggestion, BUT depending on which OM / Olympus Pro lenses and bodies you are using, you'll be surprised how dustproof and weatherproof the gear is. I am frequently on windy sandy beaches without any problems. Take a blow brush (I have one which filters the air) and rinse your gear every evening in a light shower and pat it dry in a clean towel and it all comes up looking brand spanking new.

super creative Dave

Over the last 2 weeks I have travelled the NC500 in my little motorhome. A good time to go as there were no midges and little traffic. It was over 2000 miles in total, a lot of which were on single track roads which I would have hated to travel in peak season. It was the first time I have done this route and to be honest I tried to fit too much in, I was with a friend who planned the route more with the intention on "ticking the NC500 box" than photography. If I ever do it again (doubtful) I will spend a lot more time on the west coast. Here are a few images from the trip. Live time and the inbuilt ND filters were very useful.

The last picture was taken on the trip home when I stopped O/N at Bamburgh castle. I had planned to photograph the castle at sunrise but as the sun rose a grey mist enveloped it making it difficult to see. I turned around and took this image instead.

It sounds and looks like a wonderful trip.

All the above are superb and surely wall hangers :)

Sorry I was not clear on my post. No argument with what you are saying Robin but the shower caps keep dust off the lens and are easy to quickly remove than a lens cap, especially if you have a lens hood on.

Ooh that's very odd - same for me so just crosses in any of the posts but they show up if I try to reply to the original post. Nice couple of landscapes and I've no idea which county they're from :)
