and on my doorstep to , I live in flint but am usually up the wirral a couple of times a week birding . let me know if you want to meet up , etc .or need any help
Flint, really. With a strong telephoto I could probably see you waiving. Or we could let each other know when the rain's coming across the estuary! Thanks I might, particularly if I ever decide to get more interested in those distant fuzzy blobs called birds. Well that's how I manage to capture them, you on the other hand, look pretty good at it.

I’ve got the scope as well .. I have a variety of lenses to suit most scenarios but don’t use them enough ..

It could be special if Julie Andrews was coming over the hill singing ;)

It immediately made me think of that scene...... showing my age perhaps

Surely not with Dandelions!
Oh alright.................not with the specific plants but the 'hill' and the sky and the lower PoV ;)

PS though with those 'clocks' the hills are certainly alive. :)

An image from last year taken with the OM-D EM-1iii
ISO 6400 processed with DXO PureRaw
No crop, just wanted to show the results from it. I've only just purchased a copy.
No support yet for the OM-1
No additional noise reduction.

Apparently in stock here

Have used them a couple of times with no problem at all.

Really tempted from what I have seen on here but waiting for a couple of weeks to see if Canon announce the R7 (different beast I know but either would be used for the same purpose)

I have a safari trip to Botswana planned for July. I have all the glass I need but only 1 body, an OM1. I don't really want to chance the trip without a back up camera but will rarely need two bodies. I have the opportunity of getting another OM1 or saving some money and getting a used MK111 of EMX - or indeed any other camera that takes Oly lenses. What would you recommend?

Depending on your glass you are taking a EM1X is now good value used or new my reference to the glass you are taking depends if you prefer grips with longer lenses for me the EM1X with either my 300mm or 150-400 feels very well balanced Mark 3 EM1 also good value at present

We had a good storm the other night. I dashed to the beach remembering my torch and mini tripod this time (forgotten last time I tried this years ago). Then had a terrible time trying to remember how to do a live composite. The phone signal was affected by the storm, so googling was painfully slow. Agh! I did have the manual on my phone and eventually got there, but missed lots of opportunities. I knew how it worked on the EM1ii and I remember I did look up how it was different on the Em1iii when I got the camera, but it was so long ago I had forgotten.

Only this one shot worked- ish... I hope we get another storm soon, so I can have another go. At some point I will have a go at trying to get rid of the rain drops on the screen and the car headlights that wrecked it somewhat. It was so dark that you could only see your composition when there was lightning.

Rental?

I did have a brief look at rental but for 2 weeks it would be almost as cheap to buy used then sell it after the trip.

If it's only a backup wouldn't t be better to go for an EM1iii than an EM1x? I'm thinking less space and weight - if luggage space is at a premium.

If you plan on using both bodies with different lenses on, then it would be nice to have two identical bodies especially since they have changed the menus now - not that I've had chance to try an OM1 yet as I am still awaiting my pre-ordered one.

Thanks. I was pleased to get one shot that worked - well the lightning was sharp and in frame! You have to set it to B on the menu dial by the way. On the EM1ii you just had to dial the time right down, if I remember rightly.

.... That's very very effective and has a lot of impact. It's only when you start looking hard (as only photographers tend to do!!) that you realise how it might be improved but that's how you make progress.

I thought the car headlamps was fire. I love the light on in the window and the lit roofs. I would have shot from outside to avoid the raindrops on your car windscreen - Our Oly cameras are extremely weatherproof, believe me mine have been regularly tested and continue to be so.

Did you shoot on Pro Capture?

I don’t worry at all about the rain and my camera. I’ve shot in heavy downpours, but I’m afraid I’m not brave enough to venture outside when there is such a storm - especially when you need to use a tripod. The lightning was close! I know a strike on a closed metal shell like a car won’t affect me. Sadly heavy rain at this moment too. I did try and use wipers.

Annoyingly a car next to me sat there with his headlights full on for most of the storm. This was after he’d gone. I used Live Composite.

There’s definitely room for improvement. The composition is a bit rubbish. I was expecting to get shots over the sea and here there was a hedge in front of me. I’ve waited years for such a storm after my last attempt and I almost missed my opportunity through not knowing how to use my camera  though I had looked it up when I first got it.

.... You are more sensible than I am! I would have forgotten about tripod lightning conducter!! The head is metal even though the legs are carbon, so it could still potentially act as a conducter.

Silly idiot with his headlights on - Didn't he know that he would see more lightning etc without his headlights on.

It takes years to completely learn a camera and especially the features you may not use that often, if at all. Even the trained techsupport guys don't know everything and they work full time every day. I'm off out to shoot some more trains and practice my panning. Might grab a dragonfly too where I am going - If Lady Luck comes along.

That's a wonderful capture!

It looks like we both had the same idea. I just about remembered that the feature I needed was in bulb mode. My result wasn't as good as yours, but does demonstrate that this feature really works well "out of the box".

I'm also looking forward to the next storm

Then had a terrible time trying to remember how to do a live composite.
I looked it up recently so I knew but I must have blinked because I've already forgotten how to use it. The trouble with these cameras is they do so much it's impossible to recall all but the most used features.

Looks to have lots of potential though.

A nice dramatic image, the power of nature at its most 'electric' ;)

PS the Met Office says more thunderstorm(s) due tonight 7pm to 3am in South East to East Anglia.....including the IoW......enjoy and take care :)

You did better than me to remember and captured that well. Honestly I was stumped! I'd set the interval and just couldn't find the 'make this happen' button :ROFLMAO:

That made me chuckle - yes best not to blink!

Thanks. It was dramatic. Yes hopefully some later today. I suppose I should drive to a location in the hope of getting a better composition. I do have an app that tells me there is some coming, but of course it's all a bit of a punt.

How exciting. Can I ask who you ordered from? I am awaiting an email from Wex.

What is really annoying is that I sold a Canon camera and the trade in price has gone up by almost £500 compared to when I sold mine :( I could have waited. Oh well...

Yeah I got it from E-infinity. £1919.00 delivered and the battery and charger from Park Cameras. I have used E-infinity for a lot of my gear over the years and registered bought items with Olympus so dont have a problem using them. The OM-1 has since gone up to £1939.00. It is annoying that I had one on order from LCE for £1999 back in late Feb but they couldnt get them or any info as to when they could fulfill the order so just cancelled my pre-order with them back along and got the mk3 so to have a camera to use for trip I had booked. before I cancelled they said I could be waiting till July so that made me get my £800 back and look elsewhere.
