Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

The one standout I read for my understanding and usage was on Imaging Resource in regard to the 300 f4.

Based on their testing they found using '0' seconds in the "diamond" Silent Shutter setting overcame shutter shock with that lens.
.... What is 'shutter shock'? I never use Silent Shutter but I have used the Oly 300mm F/4 Pro for plenty of shots.

I took some shots today that when reviewed suffered the same effect that you mention .. but thinking of a reason for it was easy . I was sat in the car to keep warm in the Icy weather with the engine running . The blur was due too that reason alone . …. I.e what enviroment are you taking your photos from ?
.... Are saying that icy weather is to blame Jeff?

I have shot with my Olympus in snow up the mountains of Bulgaria and even placed it on the ground in the snow - No problems whatsoever.

More recently (last winter) I spent many days outdoors in the cold photographing surfers and my camera was even showered with hail but no problem and the shots looked rather good with the hail streaks.

Hi Robin

I can only point you to this review that made me take notice, though I have yet to see any such effect..................probably because I did not go looking for it or have tried any other such settings

Shutter shock is similar to camera shake but is caused by vibrations from the shutter movement. It seems to affect a certain shutter speed range and has been reported to affect m4/3 more than other formats, but I’m not convinced the last bit is true.

That being said my EM5-II suffered really badly from shutter shock so I sent it back for a replacement and that was fine, as has every other camera I’ve had. The ‘diamond’ drive mode which was developed to reduce shutter shock is simply electronic first curtain shutter.

No Robin , I was shooting out of the car window with the engine running ,hence vibrations causing blurring

Three "Excellent" wildlife captures Jeff, liking all of these very much.

Fabulous shots, you really do make that 100-400 sing, wish I could get half the quality of these out of mine.
Why not ?is it your settings ? As I keep saying if you need help just ask I’ll always try to help

Thanks Jeff.
I have tried every permutations possible in settings, followed various YouTubers using this lens and their settings. I’m not saying they are awful, blurred etc…… I just don’t seem to be able to achieve the clarity of images you constantly show on here.
I have seen your responses to similar tales of woe from other users and followed your suggestion, but still results are ‘ok’

I also have a 12-100mm, now that is a lovely and sharp lens. I did take the 100-400 back to the excellent and helpful shop I got it from and after playing with it they thought it was as it should be, but were willing to send it back to Olympus, which as of yet I haven’t, just in case it’s……………me!

I will p.m you my mobile I’m sure we can sort it out

Certainly different to the mainstream ads

Very interesting, not sure if it relates to the "wow" camera though he has done light painting videos before.

Spotted this mentioned over at DPReview

Are we likely to be learning about the anticipated new products e.g. the "wow" camera as the next 4 videos emerge

.... Personally I think this ad is so general that it doesn't relate to any new Olympus product - It is promoting using Olympus cameras generally, nothing new whatsoever about light painting.

It does irritate me how so many companies bang on about their products helping anxieties and well-being etc etc etc. Happy Christmas!!

Flying Scotsman came through our local station this morning on its final run north on the line for this year. Was doing about line speed - 60mph - here.

Very nice Jeff, superb detail :) . Has the image had the new version of Denoise or did you have to go back to go back a version?
That was PP a couple of weeks ago so old version .,new ones working fine .i just use the standard setting though

Another from yesterday. This time trying to show movement whilst showing the name plate. Don't know if it works. Thoughts?

I,m 50/50 on it Stephen … just a little bit less blur would improve it ..

It doesn't work for me either. I understand what you are trying to achieve but there isn't anything that stand out as sharp for me.

I didn’t intend anything to be perfectly sharp - not every photo needs to be sharp, in my opinion, merely to show without doubt that it was Flying Scotsman under full power. But I appreciate your views, and thanks for commenting.:)

Sorry Mate. If the engine is sharp and the background blurred it’d have more movement.
Yes, in my defence it was one shot out of a burst of 15 as it thundered past 12 feet away at 60mph! And as you know, I don’t normally shoot anything moving faster than a glacier :D

Help with high res settings please.
I cannot seem to get my HR setting to switch from off to on either in handheld or tripod. Is there a dedicated drive mode? if so I can't see it.
