I have just got E-M1mkii so will also be selling a Mki with grip and flash batteries and stuff.
I don't want a big Nikon either but it won't be expensive.

Very nice Alby how is the Laowa 60 mm?
Hi Alf, yes l find it really good and so much easier to use than the olympus 60mm macro what with it having proper manual focus. Not really used it on my Mk2 but it works a treat on my MK1 as I use that mainly for macro now.

Thanks Alby that's interesting maybe I should have bought a Laowa 60mm instead of the mkii

What an amazing beetle(?) and so very well photographed ~ many years back I was visiting a food manufacturer somewhere down in the West Country (in the "sticks") and whilst in reception waiting for my host to arrive there were two female members of staff talking about a very odd looking insect that they had caught on the premises.......................and fearing an infestation issue they were waiting for the bug man(pest controller) to arrive to deal with and advise as needed.

He duly arrived and pronounced on the creature as a Cockchafer and that it was nothing to be concerned about and he would take it and release it elsewhere. saying that they were uncommon(rare) and not considered a pest species. It was to my eye a large and interesting creature.

Yes I'm going to publically hold my hands up and say I made a mistake, I thought the grass would be greener but for me it isn't. The nikon d810 is a beast but I'm a fool

I know the feelings - I have a d500 and a d600. They're both amazing at what they do but I don't want to pick them up for "fun"...

Manged to finally get out and try the world of macro having never shot before. The Olympus 60 mm is a really nice lens I wanted a flash to for of camera work so bought the Godox TT350O which for the money is a really nice flash combined with X1T-O trigger works really well with my EM1 mark 2 I have a lot to learn looking at the fantastic quality of macro work in the forum

does The flash gun on its own work on the mkii or just with trigger ?

Hi Jeff

Works just on its on without the trigger I think you can use the FL-LM3 Olympus flash as a trigger really impressed with the flash for the money

I very much doubt it. Every manufacturer uses a different radio protocol and there is zero interoperability between any two makes. The great thing about Godox is the intra-operability within the brand. I can use my X-ProS to trigger my TT350O and TT350F or I can use either TT350 to trigger my TT685S.

That’s one cool bug, well captured too (y)
Thanks, they are pretty cool and that said they are a pest to lawns I think.
Fabulous shots! They are such fascinating looking bugs.
Thanks Bebop ;)

TBH Alf I dont find much difference between the mk1 and mk2 for what I shoot these days. Birds in flight is the only plus with the MK2 but using zone focussing with the mk1 was pretty successful for me anyways. I would recommend the laowa. ;)

People seem to think they are cockroaches for some reason, I have had a few people think that lol. The larva does harm lawns I think so are a pest to the gardener.

We get badgers digging our lawn up and I think they are looking for the grubs.

I used to play in a band and one of these flew into my face during an outside gig. I watched it heading towards me like a bomber  It's the only time I've been known to go into a headbanging routine whilst playing  The resulting giggling rendered my backing vocals useless!

The zoom meetings are quite good , it also lets you put faces to names I think we had 27 participants this morning

.... I spent a whole day out photographing wildlife with Tesni once on a 1-1 and didn't warm to her. She's an ex Olympic athlete and seems to be over competitive in absolutely everything in my opinion. She also charged me just to take me to a RSPB reserve and nowhere else. But she is a very good photographer.

.... That first Cockshafer macro is stunning! It's got just the right balance of flash, in fact such that you don't realise that flash has been used.

I recently bought a Olympus STF-8 Twin Light like you used but haven't tried it out on minibeasts yet and am not sure where to start! May I ask you how you set the STF-8 for this shot please, particularly strengths of lights. I shoot on a M1X which is similar to your M1. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Robin, I just used it on TTL and set the ratio 1:1. I had the lamps set 10 to 2 oclock. I do have my flash head raised a little by adding a small ballhead under each flash head and I used a little extra diffusion with white foam packing material. Hope that helps.

.... Thank you Alby! I'll give that a go.

What I really like about your lighting is that it looks so natural (in your moth shot too).

Thanks, l aim to create well diffused studio lighting on a miniature scale and lighting is a main key point in good macro photography in my opinion. Try out plenty of diffuser materials until you find what works best for you.;)

she came to our club and was very personable and chatty - obviously this was before lockdown. She also spoke on the Oly stand at TPS last year and didn't give that impression. Good for her, making a living from something that she loves in a very competitive world. It will be hard for all pro photographers at the moment, whatever their professional genre / range of activities.

I am not a fan of the TTL due to the delay taking the shot.
I use my STF-8 in manual as some things like moth take off and are out of shot before it is taken.
I tried TTL the other day on my EM-1 mkii and was getting frustrated so went back to manual.

Yes I agree with certain bugs or trying to catch certin critical moments TTL is a real pain, the beauty of photography is adapting to the situation. I find photographing Doli flies is near impossible using TTL as the pre-flash spooks them everytime. The few fixed setting I do use is; hand holding, shooting fully manual and using manual focus.
