I have now corrected my comment.Sorry Alf I haven't got a clue![]()
Its tempting, PX the EM1.2 and could just be looking at maybe another £400, maybe less if I sell privately. I like the EM1.2 but the EM5.2 was always my favourite camera.I really liked the 5mkiii and will be looking to get one. The AF is great and it supposed to be as good as the 1mkiii.

Thanks will do some researchSeeing some worrying reports over the weakness of the base in the tripod mount area.
Just plastic with no reinforcement, not the more solid metal build of the Mkii.
Equally concerning is that Olympus are charging for repairs, looks like a design flaw to me

It sort passed through my mind when I was out the other day with the dog and camera, looking at the EM1.2 and thinking its beginning to get back to my DSLR days. I sort of moved from canon to fuji for the smaller form factor and thats why the XE range and then the EM5 range have been my favourite cameras. Don't get me wrong the EM1.2 is a great camera, I just can't help feel that Ive lost the portability that the EM5 gives me.Very happy with my EM5iii. Yep, AF system is the same as the EM1 ii as is the sensor. It's a very capable little camera.
The differences are mainly in the ergonomics and burst speeds as well as some other details.
Being honest, an E-M1ii is a much better camera to hold and use all day but I love the portability of the EM5iii and although it seems a minor thing, USB charging is almost a must for me and the E-M1ii doesn't have that. It does have much better battery life in the first place though. You pays your money...
Biggest problem for the E-M5iii right now is that it costs more than the E-M1ii and if the smaller size isn't important you're arguably paying more for less.
Other thing that is bugging me is the lack of low cost l-brackets available for the E-M5iii. Need to be patient for that one!
Its also on the e-group forums, posted by a member who's also on here, but it seems to be the same camera. I can't find any other instances. The only place I have seen this mentioned is on DPReview forum, this is one of a very few threads on the matter.

Makes me think that if there is/was a batch issue it would be best to wait before purchasing.......though is that being 'risk averse' rather than 'risk aware'
Caveat emptor?
I was interested in this as I'm very tempted by the E-M5 III. From careful reading there are now five very similar instances of the failure and I believe all the owners were using Peak Design strap connectors. I don't think anyone has yet reported a failure in 'normal' tripod use. However, it still looks like a weak point and poor design. The only place I have seen this mentioned is on DPReview forum, this is one of a very few threads on the matter.

I had a quick look through the DPReview forum threads, and as far as I could tell, there were 4 different cases, the one you've shown being one of them. I did only quickly browse though, to be fair. Personally I wouldn't have too much of an issue, I've not used a PD type strap since my Canon days I just don't feel that mirrorless needs one, and I never now carry my camera still attached to the tripod after my EVF got sunburnt a few years back. Here is another, I have seen a few more different cases.
I also think it looks like a definite weak spot, never seen it before on other "plastic" bodied cameras

what a bovver for a hover by jeff and jan cohen, on FlickrLots and lots but that’s the beauty of digital and mirrorless .. I actually think it might be easier using manual focus but not yet triedOh WOW! Never mind what equipment you used, the end result is what matters. How many misses though?
i had a e-m10 and needed the add on grip to make it nice to use and hold, its a little to compact.Further to my question last week, I’ve now sold a lens and had a small ( £121 ) win on the lotto. So call it £440 as a base to start with..,
I have a dilemma. Part of me wants the best AF and features I can get so I think a used e-m1.2 ( price dependent ) but then part of me thinks I have a d500 and I’d like a walkabout camera so why not an e-m10 mk2 or 3. I don’t need weather sealing..

He did a couple of vlogs earlier in the year, he had the EMx 300mm and 1.4 TC on loan from Olympus. He was blown away with the results he was getting hand held and not having to lug a tripod around.
Nice to get a front view! I always get their back end. Well captured!Must be bored as I found myself also looking to photograph hoverflies as they passed overhead. Em1ii 300mm and 1.4tc.View attachment 276120

I'm very happy with my E-M10ii - I don't want anything bigger and I don't shoot much that requires faster focusing. The loss of bracketing in A/S/P/M on the M10iii made it a pass for me, I don't have anything to display 4K video on even if I shot video.I have a dilemma. Add the 14-42 EZ and it's a lot of camera in a very small package. I can cheerfully go out with the 17mm f1.8 on it all day and not notice I'm carrying it or miss any other lenses.
I have to admit having been tempted by the 12-40PRO lens I use that almost all the time now and it is slightly bulkier than I would like - getting back to where I was with the my Pentax K100D.
The other suggestion would be the PEN-F - I've always been tempted but never been able to justify the cost over the M10ii and I'd miss the pop-up flash for the odd fill in and indoor snap.

Just wondering what you guys and gals would buy as a back-up to an EM1 mk2?.
Ideally it would be a EM5 mk3 but they look like silly money at the moment, more than a EM1.2! So I'm thinking a secondhand EM5.2 together with a new 12 - 45 zoom for all purpose walk-around stuff; leaving my EM1.2 / 12 100 zoom and 100-400 zoom for serious expeditions.
are you looking for something smaller or just a second body ?
