Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

My m43 journey is over :( All gear is now sold but I’ll continue to watch with interest

I saw your Em1 sale, steal that was. Never say never btw, I've been in circles from bridge cam to APSC to full frame back to APSC now with M43 ... I don't care what the system is once I'm enjoying my snapping :) you may come back some day

I agree Keith. It's like my RX100 m2, great image quality but I don't enjoy using it so it's rarely comes out. At the moment, the Nikon suits me but maybe that will change again in a few years like it did when I went to m43 in 2014.

Yeah you never know. I doubt my Olly will ever replace my FF, but as a travel/lightweight alternative I went round the houses (Olly > RX100 > G7x > Fuji XT1 > Olly) and don't think there's a better travel/lightweight option that can deliver good enough IQ but still small and light.

Yesterdays 365 shot using my new 7-14mm

Project 365 - 020/365: Phone Booth
What seems a fairly typical BT phone booth these days, converted to black and white for a more grungy feel.

Was asked to do some LinkedIn portraits for a friend yesterday. She has a new job and her current portraits are holiday snaps.

First time using the EM5MK2 in earnest.

Dawn requested a "soft focus effect", she seems happy with the proofs so far.

12-40mm f2.8 Pro @ 40mm.

2 Lencarta Smartflash 2's with 100cm Bowens soft boxes.

Comments welcomed as always.

The lighting is great, brings out her friendly eyes very nicely, if I was to be nit-picky, her collar [our right] looks folded in. Have you desaturated reds a little? I might have left them more bold.

Thanks Keith.

I think it's because I've added a slight vignette to accentuate the face.

Yeah didn't spot that with the collar.

just picked up an EM10 Mk11 boxed etc nice condition £209 from LCE,coming tues.
LOL saw that on their website but it was on hold for a customer - I assume from the marks on the top it was very heavily used hence the price.
I keep looking at E-M10 Mkii but the difference between what my Mki is worth and what I'd have to spend on a good Mkii is keeping me from putting my hand in my pocket.

which branch was that AM?

Sorry I can't remember - I was just surprised at the price but seeing it was on hold I figured it was gone.
It's not listed now.
The paint was missing on the edges of the viewfinder bump IIRC - Nothing that would have bothered me as long as the screen was OK and the thing worked properly.

There's an em5 in classified I hear - got some marks on the top plate, but works perfectly, LCD and EVF are fine and dandy, low enough click count, I hear the owner is a genuine ol' sod ;)

Can't believe that hasn't sold. Looks like a bargain if you're after the E-M5 but it's a E-M10 Mkii that I have my heart set on...

Aye, it's just a bit old at this stage, and most are probably put off by the marks on it [previous owner at fault] but it is in perfect working order and has a lower shutter count than some I've seen go for much higher. In't mind keeping it tbh, I'm just after a tele lens, and a macro, so something needs to go beforehand

Might be worth putting a £4 eBay eye piece on it as that's the the thing that really makes it look like it has seen some action?
Just been browsing on eBay there are some truly crazy prices being asked for E-M10 Mki - I'm almost tempted to put mine on there :o

I've seen some sell even on here without the eye cup, they are always going AWOL on the older Oly bodies. Seen some sell without even a mention of it, but from the images it was clearly absent.

It’s not like shooting and a different ratio gives you anything more as all it does is crop the 4:3 image, and if you shoot in raw it keeps the whole image anyway.

You can always have the VF guides at a wider ratio to help framing.

4:3, I only ever shoot Raw. When I shot 3:2 I often cropped in tighter, with M4/3 I tend to crop less, making less of a difference.

16-9 or 4-3 aspect ratio?what do you guys use and why?
Thanks
Native 4:3 and then crop if I want to. My Nikon is 3:2 as you know so I don't have any consistency in my images, but I can't decide which I prefer

I’m the same as this.

I’ve decided that I don’t like throwing pixels away at the capture stage - I can do that later with a cup of tea or glass of wine!

I always shoot in 4:3 JPG+RAW on my E-M10 I might crop the 4:3 to 16:9 in Lightroom if it suits the subject better.

The only exception is when I'm shooting with my plastic Holga lens on the E-PL5 - then I tend to set 1:1 JPG+RAW as it suits the "vintage" (cough) look of the image.
I usually seem to end up messing with the RAW anyway but it helps with framing given how blurred and dark the edges of the image are using that lens.

camera arrived, apart from 4 very slight small rub marks on top of the hump above the Olympus logo its mint, once I took off the screen protector lcd is like new.no marks on vf either.

Not used the Olly but the 20mm f1.7 II is a nice piece of glass, especially for the size. The only negative about this lens is AF speed when changing from near to far or vice versa.
