Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

Xc-source from Amazon. It was less than £7 IIRC. Seems pretty neutral too

Bought my EM10 with two kit lenses last year. I was undecided at first as I had a Nikon D90 with an 18-200 lens that was meeting my needs. I have hun on for over a year as to wherther to sell my Nikon or not. I bought the 12-40 2.8 pro and the Pana 35-100 2.8 for my EM10 and after using these on holiday in Italy I am more than happy with the set up. I will be selling the last of my Nikon gear this week
Here's a shot or two with the em10

I have numerous bodies from Fuji, canon, Sony etc as well as the original EM5.. Now the camera is very lovely, seems reasonably quick but I only have that Swiss Army knife of a kit lens.. It's ok at everything just a master of none..

As systems go I love Olympus, my favourite ever camera was an E-510 so if like to get to use the EM5 a little more and to move the Sony stuff on.

What recommendations do we have as an every day lens to walk about with that's not too large and intrusive? It has to be Olympus and the budget will be around £300..

Failing that, the EM5, and Sony stuff could be swapped out at a total cost of maybe £300 for the pen-f and 17mm..

What do you guys think?

The handling of the original EM5i falls way short of all the newer Olympus models. Including the Pen-F.
But you might want to get one quick before the price goes up too high.

£90 already! You may have a long wait.
Luckily for me I get paid in Euros. Tee hee. :-)

@niko - I'll see. I certainly won't be an early adopter as I'm not so desperate as to pay through the nose

yep i know what you mean, i still use my mk1 om-d- e10 must admit the focus stacking on the new versions appeals

If I am right the em1 has a flash sync speed of 1/320. Do all the flashes available for m4/3 flash at 1/320 or are there limits of some of the flashes in TTL mode? I started to look on the net and to be honest got a bit confused because it looks like some don't , can someone tell me?

Only the EM1 does focus stacking, the others only do focus bracketing.
The EM5ii also does focus stacking.

(and when the website says "Javascript error" it doesn't necessarily mean it hasn't also posted to the thread! <sigh>)

Some great shots in this thread, so pleased I got rid of my Canon gear and came back to m4/3. Can I just ask though, I've been trying to do HDR panoramas indoors (new house, re-decorating etc) and for the life of me once I'm in HDR mode I'm unable to set the drive mode to 2 s delay silent shutter. I can do it the other way i.e. set drive mode first and then HDR. Just seems odd. I could of course be doing it all wrong.

For reference I'm using a PEN-F and 17mm, but I have a feeling the menu will be the same as the em10 mk2 and em5 mk2?

Any ideas?

When did that happen?
It does focus bracketing.

I'm not sure when it changed as I've only recently bought an EM5ii, but under the bracketing menu there's definitely a Focus BKT option at the bottom. Mine's on firmware 2.2 if it helps.

As I said it does focus braketing. Those shots need stacking in software in post production.
That is not in camera focus stacking.

It wont do it I expect. Do you have a smartphone or tablet you can use the OI share app or you will need a cable release mechanical or electronic.

Ah I see - sorry. I misunderstood the terms, but you have to admit that is a bit confusing :)

Now the app is an obvious thing as I've used it primarily for image transfer. Good idea! I did get around it as I'd clearly not drunk as much coffee as I usually do, and the 5 axis IBIS seems pretty epic. I got a nice, sharp HDR panorama. Just slightly puzzled as to why the menu system didn't work quite the way I'd expect.

Just got a used em10 today. Not had a chance to use it yet, just a quick fondle.
Seems really nice but dinky. Only thing is the weird noises, presumably the IBIS?

Yes it'll be the IBIS

The size is why I upgraded to the em1 when I had the chance - better balanced imo

Thanks for confirming on the noise. It stops if I turn on the OIS on the Panansonic lens so I guess the lens and camera are talking to each other about stabilisation.

I can't afford an EM1 but I may have to invest in a grip. The offical one is a bit pricey, any recommendations for a third party one?

hi there, ive had both 3rd party and the oly grip and its worth just saving up and getting the oly one. third party tend to be bulky and you usually have to use a screw thread to take it on and off for battery changes and mem card changes.
