Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

That's really cool @ukaskew really like the image set-up and POV :)

Shows that even with m4/3 you can get subject isolation, even his neck is oof enough to get the little chap a sense of scale.

I'm having trouble getting focus peaking to work on my em1 with old MF lenses. I've activated it in the settings and it works fine on my olympus AF stuff but not my takumars. Does anyone know why and if there is a solution?

Asign focus peaking as a function button setting as I have to with my 4/3 Sigma 105.

Thanks :-)

Is it possible to apply magnification too or do I have to apply it to another function button?
I think so but I dont use magnification as it is a pain for macro IMO.

Do you use peaking or magnify? Or both?

Get full phase detect AF with the MMF-3 adaptor on the E-M1, despite the lens not being the SWD version it was pretty darn rapid and hung on well to Meerkats etc.

Heads up, Amazon daily deals has the Olympus 40-150 + 1.4 TC for £899, for the next hour and a bit

Can anyone tell me please whether the EM1 and EM5ii both have anti-alias filters, and is there a way of altering the sharpness as on my GH3 in the various picture settings. I’m looking for maximum sharpness for focus-bracket wild flower photography where I don’t think there’s much chance of moire being a problem

Thanks Steve, I know there’s lots of information on-line but that’s saved me trawling through it!

That's ok, it wasn't a serious post. For some reason, the camera couldn't focus initially but I took the shot anyway :)

Does anyone know if a spanish warranty card and label on the box is ok/normal for a UK bought Olympus lens? Bit nervous about cashback although it was direct from Amazon (not a third party).

i know warranty works worldwide not too sure about cash back but i think you'll be ok

Well boys and girls just a little message as today i boxed up my kit and sent it to Wex for PX. over the past few months I've been playing with my Dads D800E and Sony A7II, didn't really get on with the Nikon much it was good when the shots were not blurred but unless i was on a tripod it was hard to say the least, but the sony was nice. I then tried an A7RII and the detail was just amazing.
Im sat waiting now for my Credit note and will Purchase the Sony A7RII with Zeiss 24/70, i will miss the Em5II its been good to me, but i thought whilst the em1II hasn't been announced id float the idea with PX. the price i was offered was too good to not take so i,ll defect for now and then come back once the EM1II drops as my second body.

Hi Rob, the A7RII is a lovely camera but a word of caution about the 24-70 f/4. If you're expecting 12-40 performance (across frame sharpness throughout the focal range) I would caution you read some reputable reviews before signing on the dotted line.... or at least see if you can test one first.

I occasionally lust after an A7 but then I think I'd want the mk2 as I wouldn't be without ibis. Then I look at the lens options and see how many great lenses I have and how few options there for the Sony, and how big they generally are. Then I look at the images from my D700 and D610 and realise there isn't really THAT much difference. Then I think of all the great features the EM1 has such as live composite and focus stacking. Then I think what my wife would say if I started another system. Then I sit back happy with where I am and decide to wait for the EM1ii. :D

I keep lusting after an x100t...and then think that I'd get naffed off with a fixed FL and remember that I quite like my knackers....That and Oly are due to release some f1.2 lenses soon..

Agreed Ned, you're spot on.
Certainly the real difference between 16 (µ4/3rds) and 24 (35mm frame) megapixels in good to average lighting is not worth the jump but the A7RII is another step up (in resolution) from the A7II.
In my book the only way to go with the A7RII is the prime route, 28/21, 35, 55 and 90 macro.
I've been tempted but if I did I would hang on to my Oly gear because it's too good.

Recently I was pondering about an XT1 and then my sister bought one and asked me to figure it out (she's Nikon) and after 30 minutes I gave up, it was totally baffling and didn't sit well in my hand. People like to complain about the Oly menu system but I made the jump from Nikon easily enough but the Fuji ones just seem old and archaic.

At the same time I bought my wife a Fuji X30 as it was the only camera with exactly her requirements. Whilst better on the control front I still don't really gel with it at all, she loves it though and I have to admit the jpgs are truly lovely.

Point being, the grass may seem greener but as often as not it isn't when you actually get you hands on her. Err the camera :D

I know what you mean - the jpegs from the xf1 I had were lovely..

Nought wrong with my em1 anyway..

I am waiting for an E-M5 mkII to arrive. I just sold my E-M5

I keep nearly buying one to replace my broken EM10 but then think there is little point as I'm not going travelling for a while and prices only ever go down.

Also I am REALLY interested in the new Pen F announcement due weds morning as that is rumoured to be trailing 3 new technologies/features for the EM1ii - it is almost certain to have the same sensor (so they say).

Planning a trip to Alaska in June so hopefully the EM1ii will be with us by then.

I got the E-M5 mkii for £659 from SRS

A bit of advice...
I was going through some shots I took last year with my Em1 and 12-40 2.8 and noticed some artefacts on peoples skin as below. Im wondering is this is due to me over processing in PP which is very new to me. Or could it be due to a camera setting such as noise reduction etc. All advice appreciated.

EDIT: The forum does not show the problem as clear as I can see on my computer but I hope you get the idea (increased redness or freckles!)
