Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

ill be honest and say he does have a point though, if somebody knows there onions and pays 100s or 1000s for a proper wedding guy, some people can get really anal if you don't turn with with Nikon or Canon, or a Hasselblad. its just the way the world is very materialistic.
On the answer to your question Pawlo go for it

Lens wise

40-150 Pro
12-40 pro
In fact buy all the pro range including fisheye

For portrait you would be mad not to buy the Nocticron from Panasonic, maybe the 42.5 but if thats too far away then drop down to the smaller one. you could go Voightlander but its fully Manual...

The Oly flashgun is a dream to use by the way, but 200+ the light on it is great..

Just stick a red dot on it. Gear snobs would be all over it.

Here you go, a guide from the Northrups - skip ahead to 4:38 ;)

Brilliant. Tell 'em it's got an OVF too! Well, it will have in November.

Why do we have to wait so long for them to release the Firmware upgrade? It must be strategical.

bloody hell that 600mm canon lens is like a dustbin lid.....

I'm pondering on whether to get one for a wedding I'm shooting in a couple of weeks. I do have the 40-150 pro but the extra little bit of narrow DoF is tempting me.

It's a good mates wedding so if ever there was an excuse...
If I tell you this was took at f1.8 and the privite hedge was 3 to 4 feet behind her you can see how good the dof is.

I've been lurking at this tread for a while, currently playing with em10 and epl5 in the past. As my hobby in photography turned heavily into people and portraits I start thinking about doing wedding shots. I am currently building my portfolio, mainly family and children pics. I have read many threads about wedding photography and it looks that everybody use DSLRs for it. My first idea was use m43 system as my setup, let say 2 bodies, 2 pro zooms from Oly or Panas, flash guns, fisheye and P25/1.4, but some pro's told me that people may not hire me for the job if they see what gear I'm using (isn't big so it's not pro) even if they like my portfolio. I'm curious what you guys think about it?

After seeing this and some of the replies I was curious to see if anyone out there did use Olympus for weddings and I found the following links:

I read this chaps blog out of interest on using Oly gear, this link has him using EM 1 but I think in another part of the blog he has used Em 5 MkI

This lady, Lindsey Dobson uses a variety of cameras including Olympus, each her blogs, and discusses many things about photography as well.

You can't do weddings with m43 if:
a) you worry too much about what a guest might say when they see your equipment.
b) you believe a DSLR owner who thinks a pentaprism is required to get professional results.

Seriously, of course you can't do weddings with m43..... :)

Oh FFS, I'd just talked myself out of 'needing' the 75mm :banghead:

edit: oh, and by the way, I'm shooting one of my best mates wedding on Friday and despite having some Nikon FF kit I will be using my m4/3 cameras.

Must get around to selling the Nikon stuff. Actually, there's an idea - anyone fancy swapping a 75mm for a D610? :D

It's not a lens you'll probably use every day of the week, but you definitely need it........ :)

I just set focus peaking and magnification to both activate when using the focus ring.(5ii) So far it seems a good combo setting. Anyone else tried it?

Nah I never used peaking and magnify at the same time, but my eyes get along with the VF-2 series of EVF really well,
meaning I rarely magnify.
I also have a Fuji X-E1 and that uses peaking since the EVF is otherwise a smudged atrocity...

Peaking is great but I don't use magnification as it gets in the way for me.

Having never owned the 75mm F1.8, but having lusted after it for a while, I was wondering if anyone had compared the 75mm F1.8 to the Olympus 60mm F2.8 Macro at similar F stops for shooting portraits ? I know they are totally different lenses, but I've heard that the 60mm Macro does portraits really well (as well as the obvious macro side). I'm just deciding if I should stick with the 60mm for portraits, or spring for the 75mm ?

I've never tried my 60mm for anything other than Macro so will give it a go, but it would be great to hear from someone who has both lenses to hear the differences. Obviously, I know the 75mm can go to F1.8 whereas the macro is "only" F2.8 and the FOV of the 75mm is 150mm equivalent, whereas the 60mm is only 120mm, but are they comparable at all - focus, DOF, Bokeh etc. ?

I used the 60mm a few times for shots of my son and it was fine - very sharp and quick to focus. I've never had the 75 to compare though

Ok Boys just need a steer, off Car Racing well Vintage Morgan 3 wheelers racing on Saturday, and want to get a few good shots in, lens wise ive got 75-300 12-40 Pro. 45mm F1.8 prime few others but not that they will be any use...

Just need some guidance on ISO/Shutter speed combos
Damian i know you do this a lot and i kinda will learn as i go i know, but for you all that have done this before what shall i go for.

Also do i use CAF or CAF Tracking or leave it SAF.... is CAF that crap on the EM5II ? or is it where i need to be

tasks i want to have are

Blurred Backgrounds crisp Cars.... I presume I'm panning for that ?
Any other tests i can do and play with ?

Wifes coming with my FZ1000 she will video it all

thanks

I used the 75-300ii in shutter mode, with CAF for drag racing ( I found the + TR mode randomly wanders off of the subject ). I must say that there isn't a whole lot of difference with SAF and CAF. I left mine on ISO200 to keep the shutter speed down.

Regarding shutter speeds, it depends on how much blur you want, how fast the cars are and how steady your hands are. So i'd start at around 1/160s and work down from there - you'll probably find you need 1/100s or less as Morgans aren't know for their speed. Make sure you don't fill the whole frame with the car, follow the car with the camera as you shoot ( the EVF will go black as you shoot so you need to keep panning )

Try and change you view point a few times or you'll end up with lots of similar shots

So I relented and ordered a 75mm :D

I can always sell it on after the wedding...

.....I thought you might succumb.... :)

I've just sold one of my iPad Air 2 in wait for thto new pro version, however I keep looking at the 40-150 pro lol
If I even spend that much on a lens I may save it and buy a D750 just so I have a FF in the wings
