Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

Yeah, it has an extra pin to take power from and the older cameras don't have that pin. Presumably future ones will.

When I had my ep-3 I used the olympus fl-36 flash. Its fairly compact for a bounce and swivel.

It's a shame that the models with swivel and bounce are so large. A compact flash that can swivel and bounce would be a big seller I think.
That's the i40. Small and fully featured. With bounce and swivel.
The body is the size of the 4 AA batteries. So it couldn't get any smaller without compromising on power. The cute FL-LM3 that comes with the EM5 mkii doesn't have batteries. So it can be smaller.

Yeah, shame they didn't make the power pins part of the MFT standard. Or make software lens corrections standard either.

Now's the time to grasp the nettle, and add the power pins to the standard. As some Panasonics have them too.

I have in mind to buy a oly 17mm1.8 or the 25mm1.8.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
I owned the 17mm but hardly used it due to the focal length I preferred at that time. The quality of the optics were impressive though. The 25mm Oly is supposed to be very good and can be had used at a good price in the classifieds on here.

Liyama ,thanks, although the 17mm would be good as a street and general purpose lens wouldnt it.?

The o25 is great. Personally I prefer how the pannys render as the O is sometimes described as a little clinical.

Thankyou, the 45 shoukd be here tomorrow so im feeling the 17mm makes most sense for me.
A couple of people have commented on their 60mm macro lens, anyone else feel it is a good buy?

Thanks. There's nothing 'wrong' with them, but they're not stellar either IMO (discounting composition etc and purely talking IQ). Of course, it's a bit unfair me expecting stellar performance from a lens like this at this price, but these were in good light. In anything other than good light IQ rapidly drops, more so than what I'm used to.
Sorry didn't quite mean it like that, they look very good on my large screen monitor, much better than on my phone. I called them nice as I'm more of a people person....

PS. I went for the Oly version, I prefer having the extra 30mm at the front and the aperture at 300mm is just fine for the kind of shots this is for.

Anyone recommend a reasonably priced zoom for my EM10. Mainly to be used for casual days such as the Formula 1 and air shows and occasionally on holidays. Been lookin at the Panny 45-175mm which looks pretty nice. Would also consider second hand.

because I'm getting the primes I'm going to sell the kit 14-42,any idea what they have been going for SH?
thanks

The Olympus 40-150 is crazy value - often <£100 2nd hand.

Is it the pancake ez version Chris or the bigger one ? The larger ones are about £45 but I've seen then ez ones go for anything from £115 to £180

Edit - I see your ad now so ignore the above :)

Hi all,

I'm VERY new to the forum, but was recommend by a friend.

Anyway, I'm fairly new to my Olympus camera, I have the Em5 Mark 2 and a few lenses. I previously had Nikon cameras, and sold my D600 to jump to the good ship Olympus.

So far, I'm not regretting my decision.

I miss the higher resolution when cropping, and the low light is obviously not as good, but what I have gained far outweighs those problems.

I had a question regarding my 14-40mm 2.8 PRO lens, recently bought from Amazon, directly from them, but I think this may be Italian stock, because of the warranty card and a sticker on the box. Does anyone know if this will cause me issues later down the line should I need it fixing for any reason? I'm tempted to send back and get a proper UK stock replacement.

Thanks for any advice, and I look forward to spending more time here :)

Speak to Olympus. I think EU regulations say they have to honour the first 12months warranty in the UK, but for any extended warranty you may have to send it back to Italy. As for repairs it shouldn't be an issue, they all get sent to Portugal anyway.

Thanks Snerkler. I actually just decided to speak to Amazon and get a replacement. Better safe than sorry after doing a bit of reading, and Amazon returns so simple to use. Hopefully the one that comes this time is proper UK stock.

I have both Snake, and to be honest, there isn't much to chose between them in regards to image quality. Not that I'm a big one for pixel peeping anyway.

I prefer the build quality of the 17mm, and the focus clutch with focus marks is useful for night time shots. Otherwise, I think it really boils down to the focal length you prefer. Sometimes 17mm is too wide, sometimes 25mm to close, but I would usually got for the 17mm if I have to take one, as I can always crop or move closer. Sometimes with a 50mm equivalent, you don't have the option of moving backwards.

I think I'm actually going to sell my 25mm, and perhaps swap the 17mm for the 20mm 1.7 Panasonic pancake lens. Although normally a mostly prime lens user, I recently got the 12-40mm PRO lens, and that really hasn't left my camera much since getting it. So I kind of have the nice first world problem of too many lenses!

That is the great thing about m4/3, so many good, reasonably priced lens options out there.

wow thats a big difference Damian.

The 17mm 1.8 is a great little lens, Not utterly sharp wide open, but perfectly good enough and so very light. As James wrote the clutch focus is really useful.

One from Sunday at Avoncroft, this young lady was kind enough to pose for me and wait while I attached my 75mm f1.8 portrait lens, she showed great patience for a old man like me.:)

Lovely image, although if being picky I would say the eyes are a touch too over processed for my tastes. Great all the same.

The bee was very lethargic - I ended up with it on the end of my car key so I was shooting one handed a bit wobbly

Damianmkv do you feel your upgrade from the em10 to the em1 was a worthwhile upgrade, do you see any obvious difference in picture quality or is it purely handling that has improved? Ive got large hands and worry the em10 would be too small for me.

No difference at all in picture quality although there is c-af which is noticeably better

The e-m1 is much better balanced - where the 10 was nose diving with the 75-300, it's great with the 1

I'd go as far to say as the iq is a little better on the EM10, especially at high ISO.

I would suggest, before buying an EM1 get the grip for the EM10 - it makes a hell of a difference.

I agree, I have little hands but the grip is permanantly on my E-M10.
