Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

Take it back, something very wrong there and with the other issues it sounds like you're better off getting a new one rather than letting them try to fix it.

Sorry to here that Sarah you could always return it get a refund then reorder and get the 45 and grip!!

Great shots Thunderbird, I especially liked the second of your around Manchester and the snow scene from today.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck Sarah, good to hear you have a replacement coming quickly.

Here is some recent birdie shots that I grabbed lunchtime Friday.
Our resident Robin :)

Taken with the E-M5 and Tokina 300mm f/2.8

Greytop; those Robin pics are superb. The Tokina looks like a great lens. I've got my eye on one on eBay :)

Thanks Glenn.
Yes I can vouch for the lens, it's excellent.
I picked up mine from Ffordes, it's brand new unused stock in an FD mount.
They still have five in stock although one is without it's hood.

Thanks for the info. Not sure I can justify all that cash. I have an Olympus Zuiko 300mm f4 and a x2 converter, which is pretty good fun, but very heavy!

Nice shots Glenn, the OM 300 looks to be a handy size compared to the Tokina :)

Pictured without the hood on my OM-D

It's a beast!

One advantage of the Oly is the built-in hood, seen extended in my last post. Here it is retracted. Just reralised I said it was f4, its 4.5.

Yes that retracting hood is a neat idea, Olympus were always good at neat ideas.

Having initially received what appeared to be a bad copy of the Panasonic 100 to 300 I exchanged it and the replacement is a definite improvement. This can be a great lens, if you get a good one. It's still a bit soft at 280 and above (which I can certainly forgive it for) but overall I'm really pleased to have this amount of zoom power in such a small package.

At the weekend I took it out for some testing along with my new Panasonic 35 to 100 F2 .8 which is very impressive. The results can be seen here: http://lindsaydobsonphotography.com/pets/panasonic-35-100-f2-8-and-100-300-f4-5-6-olympus-omd/

Loving the old mantel clock barrel sight Huw :D Looks a great lens going by the results you posted up. I would be tempted if I never had the Canon fd 300 f4. Bet it looks crazy with the hood attached :D

Great to hear you got your 100-300 mm sorted Lindsay. I find mine needs some care with focus at longer distances for sharp results. Still you really can't complain for the money :)
My 35 -100 mm is fast becoming my favourite go to zoom, I find the image quality excellent with none of the corner softness mentioned by some. A great bit of kit and so nice to use.

Thats an immense looking lens!

Thanks Chris :D
Immense, well yes it is largish and benefits from a mono or tripod but it certainly delivers sharp results from pretty close to wide open which was key for me. I bought it mainly as an occasional birding lens.

Posted this amongst others a few posts back, taken with the 300 mm Tokina and OM-D.

Cheers Alby, funny you should mention the clock, its' been an item of amusement on Olympus System Talk UK as well :D
Yes with the hood attached it's looking just a little extended

Thanks Alby, and Huw. Yes the 100 to 300 does require a bit of extra care at times, but as you say for the money it's a no-brainer. That Robin shot is gorgeous - I wonder if it was the same one that I photographed, it was a right little poser!

Good news Lindsay, some great shots in your blog. I really find my 100-300 very sharp. You have the 35-100 too, how you finding that, worth the cost?

Hi Julian, I'm relieved I now have a sharp copy of the 100 to 300, I certainly had a lot of fun with it over the weekend. The 35 to 100 is really beautiful, fabulously constructed, quite small and light, and the image quality is fantastic, sharpness is terrific (it's a bit like having several prime lenses in one). At one point I was considering the wonderful 75 but the 35-100 covers that with minimal loss in DOF but with highly useful versatility. The price of the 35-100 is pretty scary but I'd say it's worth it. It's been pretty much my staple zoom range for portraiture over the years which enables me to justify the purchase since I'll get loads of use from it.

Very impressive shots from the 100-300 Lindsay, the biggest compliment I can give it is that scrolling through the photos the shift from 35-100 to 100-300 isn't anywhere near as apparent as I was expecting (in fact it's hardly noticeable).

You could almost say it was aggressive looking, if a lens could look aggressive :D

I had a look on the ffordes website, just looking ;)

You're pretty spot on Julian, actually by wife refuses to accompany me if I plan to take out the OM-D and Tokina together :D

Yes, it's quite interesting. I do next to no sharpening on my shots, even the RAWs only get the tiniest touch on import (less than default). If I'd added a little more sharpening to the 100-300 images then it really would be quite difficult to tell them apart. It lacks a bit of contrast and colour, but that's not a problem as its easy enough to adjust that in post.

Good to hear you got the replacement so quickly Sarah! Lovely image by the way! I think the 12-50mm is underrated, as it is a really useful lens with very good macro capabilities.
Enjoy both for a long time to come!

Glad you got the om-d sorted Sarah, the 12-50 is sealed too, I have used mine in heavy rain without problems.

My camera came back on Friday 2.00ish from being cleaned, sent on Tues 1.30ish to Lisbon, cleaned and back again. Pretty amazing really so I took a shot of my coal fire to test it still worked. It seems to. :D

Good news Alby. I am really impressed with Olympus service, although perhaps you might not be as impressed.

I'm impressed with the speed they tried to correct the original problem but less so that it took 3 attempts. All sorted now so I can forgive them that.:bat:
My camera travelled 7,500 miles approximately getting sorted. :) Not very green getting an Olympus cleaned and serviced.
