Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

Huge that is don't people look at u

About the same size as the 12-50! ;)

Here is a couple of shot taken back in the Summer at 1200mm fov with a Canon fd 300 f4 and 2x tele converter on my OM-D handheld.

Duck (1) by Alby Oakshott, on Flickr

That first one is particularly impressive for hand held, I guess it must be down to the IBIS.

I know I have to use a monopod with my FD 300mm f/4 and Panasonic G2 to stand a chance of a sharp shot under most conditions.

I think you may well be right Rob, I haven't tried the manual lenses on my G2 but they do seem to work well on the om-d. I love the feel of the older lenses and using them does slow me down a bit and make me think more about my shots.

Thanks Alan and to everyone else for feedback on the lenses I was wondering about. I am building up a horribly expensive list! As for that humongous lens pictured above - hysterical - looks like fun though!

I am feeling a bit deflated. I just phoned up Hdew who I ordered my camera from on Tuesday to get a progress update and was told it hasn't arrived with them yet and must be on back order from their supplier. Mere mention of the word "backorder" makes my hackles rise, particularly when my money is taken at the point of order. They said they'll update me this afternoon. If I'm looking beyond their stated timescales then I will cancel my order and go elsewhere. I must sound horribly impatient but I really NEED this camera!

Id be the same, they should know if their supplier has stock before taking money, and shouldve contacted you first not the other way round.

Well I'm hoping they will have stock tomorrow as apparently they are expecting a shipment. They said they'd phone me back this afternoon at around 3pm and let me know either way, but no phone call as yet. Interestingly there is no mention on their website of cancellation policies (hopefully it won't come to that), but I would guess distance selling covers that.

Irritating none the less Lyndsay

I always call the retailer 1st - make sure they are actually humans and that they have the item in stock. Not much use now I know

I did that Alan, I put the order in by phone to make sure everything was okay. The person I spoke to sounded very professional and polite and told me I'd likely have it this week or Monday latest. There's still time for it to arrive on schedule, I'm just a bit surprised that they couldn't tell me anything today as to its whereabouts. I don't mind things going slightly wrong on occasion, happens to us all at times, but I do get irritated by poor communication.

Agreed - especially when waiting for a new toy

True there's nothing worse than waiting for new gear and not actually knowing when its going too arrive :(

It's even worse when you're female - to 'tide oneself over whilst waiting' you have to order something which will hopefully come quickly enough to appease you, like a pair of expensive furry winter boots. If they get delayed then a handbag is usually next on the list - but hopefully with guaranteed next day delivery or else the whole sorry (and costly) cycle starts up again. :dummy:

Lovely control of light and shade in that shot David.

You know, I could have wrote that post :D

Only Joking!

I am now picturing you in furry boots with a blingy red handbag over your shoulder ...... nothing to be ashamed of

Still no update on my OMD, phone call not returned, so I sent them a polite e-mail this morning asking for confirmation that it is indeed in stock. Hdew have an excellent reputation so I'll remain hopeful.

Edit: Just had a response, my camera is in stock so should arrive next week. Can't wait!

Well that sounds a very good deal.

I'm now thinking about a long zoom. I'd like your opinion of the 40-150. I'm after something that is sharp and as fast as possible. I suspect I would find f6.3 a bit slow on the long end.

Bear in mind the 45mm was free but it was just a saying all that for £1200 is fantastic. If any problem I just take it to the shop as it near me.

The zoom lens is pretty good for the price I've paid and it quite good outdoor in day light but indoor it ok depends now much light there is but it great little lens to have in the bag for the price I've paid :)

Lindsay I find my mZuiko 40-150 sharp enough at 150mm, anything to surpass it is going to be a lot more specialised.
If I need the aperture I use an old manual 135 with F3.5 max aperture, and there are plenty of good and cheap F2.8 around too ... but of course manual focus.

Ah - does that mean you can't manually focus it?

You can manual focus I should think but not manual zoom

See, the lever Lindsay, thats the zoom "ring", you push it from one side to the other to zoom in and out. Advantage being very smooth and quiet focusing during video, disadvantage its a bit slower to zoom than a normal ring.

I have the panasonic 45-200 and oly 40-150 the first thing you notice is the size comparison and weight the oly is much smaller and lighter but does feel a bit plasticky and the panny seems to be built better.

I've only had the oly for over a week and it works well your not going to get great dof with it but its sharp and the beauty of it for me is the size. I can fit the omd with lens the 40-150 and another prime oly 45mm in a jimmy bo 300 bag and can hardly feel I'm carrying anything.

Here's an example of the oly 40-150

If your thinking of this lens this deal is a no brainer the lens retails for around £200 but have a look here and the extras you get I was gutted when I saw this as a couple of days before I traded in a gf3 and 14mm for this lens and £20!!
