Thanks - just a crop from the middle of the shot.

With regard settings - click the link to Flickr under each picture, then click the highlighted bit below (the name of the camera) to see all the EXIF info.

Oh dear. I've succumbed - OMD on order! I had a Fuji XE1 on pre-order but having already waited 6 weeks, with the prospect of another 2 months wait for the Fuji zoom kit, I've gone off the boil. I need a top notch small camera and zoom and the OMD seems to be an excellent choice given all the comments I've been reading and of course the wonderful images created by the skilled folk in this thread. I've been ruined to a degree by the IQ of my 5DMkIII and my X100, but for personal work (and I hope the odd pro outing) the Oly sounds exciting - and more importantly it sounds like fun. I'll report back when I've tested it. In the meantime thanks to everyone who has contributed their views in this thread, really helpful to anyone considering this camera.

Edit: I ordered it from Hdew Cameras - imports, but a generally well regarded seller. I think I got a bargain for the Oly zoom kit for £820.

Congrats on the purchase Lindsay - am looking forward to seeing your efforts with the m43 kit after checking out your website and seeing some pretty amazing portraits

I am enjoying getting out and about with the OM-D and the rest of my small, lightweight gear - and yes it is fun to use.

Thanks Alan (I've been loving your work throughout this thread). I'll certainly take it on some portrait assignments. I've heard of a few wedding photographers who use the Oly professionally for the more candid stuff. I should have mine by the weekend.

I recommend the 45mm Oly f1.8 lens and maybe the 60mm macro or 75mm for your portrait work - all 3 are said to be incredibly sharp, fast apertures, quick focusing, pleasing colours and of course bokeh (background blur)!

I have the 45mm although not really put it through its paces yet.

Oh stop it - I would love those lenses! But I mustn't be tempted, especially as I have a full repertoire of L glass for my pro work. Mind you, I'm getting sick and tired of the weight of my large cameras and lenses, especially as I now have RSI and arthritis from hoisting them around for the last few years. I'm sure I could get away with 'small kit' for many of my assignments ......

I had the Canon 7D as i wanted the crop and faster AF system compared too my 5D2 but i wasn't happy with the noise so i sold it within a month of owning it from new  Yet i find the OMD ( and GX1 ) good but maybe im just comparing them more too previous M43 models

I don't go too wild on high ISO as i tend too go for faster glass too try avoid doing so yet...
ISO 12800 with the OMD and a Olympus 45mm which isn't bad in my opinion, i messed the metering up with it having a Black cat i think hence high ISO

Dexter in high ISO !

Nothing wrong with that. What settings on the camera NR turn in? Jpeg or Raw as I can't get a image like that at 12800 at all so need to work out what the problem is

Could I have a duff camera? All these images I am seeing are fantastic mine hmmm not as close yet

Is your exposure correct or are you needing to adjust in post Rookie?

Said jpeg when I looked?

Never ever adjust exposure when processing

Im guessing its at the low setting for noise reduction but i have since actually turned off now along with the -1 sharpness setting which i prefer.

Going wait for my 45 mm lens to arrive then see how that performs

Take a deep breath and start from the beginning. Just take a few test shots and post them up here for us to take a look at.

Did you check for the latest firmware?

Might be worth resetting the camera back to factory settings too - just in case you changed something somewhere.

According to the EXIF you have got the exposure comp set to +0.7 EV

You also appear to have Gain Control:High gain up and Sharpness:Soft

Have you changed these?

Was told to do this on another forum to try and gt less noise normally I like it at 0 but I had lot of noise .. Grrrrr need someone to come and help this is harder than dslr

Where is the gain control and I am sure I have it set at normal but it appears it gets puts in at high iso some how.. You take a image at high iso and see if your shows the same as this something baffles me..

If I reset the camera what settings shall I alter

You shot jpeg don't you what setting for NR

If I were you I would reset the camera back to factory and just try taking a picture with it set like that - on P or even iAuto. Let the camera decide the settings to use and see what happens - don't twiddle with anything initially.

High Gain Up appears to be in my EXIF for higher ISO shots too so that is a red herring - I never changed anything.

I just have the noise reduction off personally but try it at low and see which you prefer i also have sharpness at -1 that's how i prefer mine set up..
apart from that i think that's all i have changed

They lovely macro you got a ring flash for the omd? Which one?

Didn't know the 45mm a macro lens?

No I used the Nissin Di466 flash. Yes the panasonic Leica 45mm dg elmarit is a true macro lens.

The 60mm olly looks a good lens too, it wasn't out when I got the 45mm.
