Ha ha. It a great kit and my free lens been accepted already so hope not too long. I've already a 40-150 and am amaze how good the lens is.

Macro on kit lens is good dare I think how good the 60mm macro be :)

Also found something stupid in iauto iso is limited to 1600 but I use other modes thou

Ha ha

I though auto mode on this camera the best I've ever seen and used was amaze. But I do use m and av mode most of time. Auto for the mrs but it does a grand job.
 
What best setting take picture of our daughter who never sit still. I guess the fast portrait lens be ideal.

Going post some images later :)

Been watching this thread with interest and delighted you have bitten the bullet Andrew...the Hope Valley is a beautiful place, spent most of my life in the area :thumbs:

I find the face detection feature quite good and the camera is quick too focus and shoot so its a case of if face is detected and you've got a potential shot your likely too get a in focus shot if you press that shutter button ;)
I tend too have the continuous shooting mode on and will take say 4-5 in a photo just incase one of my kids blink etc:
If child is moving it might be worthwhile using the AFC type setting.

Apart from the above you can only raise the high iso too get that faster shutte speed too stop any blurred photo's but i like fast glass taking photo's of my kids so primes are the cheaper way too go on average for that like a Panasonic 20mm f1.7 or Olympus 45mm f1.8 unless you want go for paying out for the Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 or 25mm f1.4

all above based in my opinion :)

I love fast primes too that why am waiting for the free lens to arrive... Have tough about getting the 20mm 1.7 Panny but people say it slow?

It is one of the early lenses on M43 system and is not the quickest but i used find it okay when i used it previously, I do have a 25mm which i tend too use as similar focal length and faster i'll try it out over the weekend too give a second test run and a newer opinion with it..
I just kept it for a GX1 i have on the way as it would be a compact combo for taking with me too work then :D
 
I finally caved in. OM-D arriving tomorrow :)
 
I bumped into someone else who had an OM-D over the weekend... wishing I'd bought the Silver one now! :'(

The 20mm is a magical lens - focal length, small pancake, and fast aperture are awesome, the only thing that lets it down is the sluggish focusing compared to the P14/P14-42 etc.

Certainly not enough of a reason to exclude it from my kit though.

Exactly this - my P20 and P14 live on my GX1 for smallest package and the bigger micro lenses get used on the OM-D.

One feature I've started to use more recently is the high FPS with 7 shot AEB, handheld. It's liberating being free from the tripod when I'm out taking shots for HDR processing.

I went for a black one cos it was £40 cheaper at amazon (*) than the silver.


(*) Yes, I know I should have bought it at a bricks and mortar shop. I tried. But my local Jessops not only didn't have one in stock or on display, but the guy serving me had never heard of the OM-D and couldn't tell me when they'd have stock. Sigh. I fear they will be 'doing a Comet' sometime next year when the Xmas sales rush has gone.

I went for a black one just because I like it.. The silver is nice but I prefer black :) Your right Jessops who are they?????
 
How people taking indoor shots of 3 years old who never keep still? Also what is setting people using what this focal length setting we can alter what u all got set at?
 
What settings pls can you post out of camera image pls. People keep saying the 20 mm has problems on omd?

PP in Picasa 3 was slight Sharpening and Holga B&W conversion.

Straight out of camera JPG - OM-D and 20mm pancake - 1/80s f1.7 ISO1250.

The 20mm allegedly has high ISO noise banding issues on the OM-D body - I have not experienced this and thoroughly enjoy using this lens on all of my M43 bodies.

Here is a (not at all spectacular) ISO6400 shot on the OM-D with 12-50 in Macro mode - focus point was on the M of 'Alarm'

Ive had no problem taking good photo with kit lens doing Macro and still shots.. It just the kid ha ha so I think I need a fast Prim to do indoor photo of the kid I think prob best waiting for my 45mm to arrive to see if I am happy with that before buying something wider?

Was that macro with Flash I never used flash yet as I hate using flash.

Roll on fast primes :) think try get a 20 or 14mm cheap which shall I get

Panasonic 25mm on the squirrel (says Flickr) - you must have been pretty close to it! :D
 
A let down I have found with the OMD is the Battery it soo short doesnt last very long

Outrageous :shrug: :lol:

Did you not read the specs for battery life before you bought it? At around 300-400 shots I'm more than happy.

You'll get less shots if you are constantly fiddling with menus, you'll also not get full capacity until you have charged/discharged the battery a couple of times.

Have you checked for the latest firmware (1.5)? It stops the IBIS running the whole time and is rumoured to improve battery life.

Finally, if it is really not good enough for you, buy another battery and/or the grip which will extend battery life.
 
I though noise at high ISO suppose be good on omd. I've not been impress yet so far

Yes he came right up to me although he was after my nuts!!!

Bird one was oly 40-150r and the others panny 25mm.
 
Does it matter which picture mode we use? I am using Normal
