Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

Thanks folks :-)

I also have the Samyang 7.5 need to use it more it's a great lens for the money.
This is one shot I took when I just got it, this was taken on a G1

Decisions - do I buy a GX1 and a G3 for the price of the OM-D?

We've currently got all three and the G3 is being sold, the GX1 and OM-D both feel like quality cameras, the G3 doesn't and even though the photos it takes are good it just doesn't feel good in my hands. There's very little between the GX1 and OM-D, even size is very similar (for some reason I assumed the OM-D would be a lot bigger), if I had to pick then I would go for the OM-D as we bought the LVF-2 for the GX1 so the price ended up being about the same.

Personally for me having had a quick shot with both when considering my purchase of the OM-D I'd buy the OM-D, handling was miles better for me, menus seemed better to use, you've got weather sealing, IBIS, excellent IQ.

Fair enough there won't be as much IQ difference between GX1/G3 and OM-D as there is between the older G2 or EP2 but I'd imagine its still better.

I briefly had a GF2 with the intention to use it as a compact when I didn't want to use the OM-D but to be honest the OM-D is so small I've sold the GF2 and just take the OM-D everywhere, its narrower than an EP2 if a little taller.

Could also consider the new G5?

Hi Richie, and thanks

Chris, do you think 12mm (24mm) will be wide enough for the landscapes? Where as 14mm or 18mm of the other 2 lenses is pretty wide.

I would think 12mm would be wide enough if I'm honest and 12mm is probably more versatile for other things too than the true UWA options like the 7-14mm.

This lens seems to get fantastic reviews by everyone - whether fitted to a Nikon, canon, m43 or whatever else body - could be a better alternative to the 7-14 and over half the price - especially as it may not get used alot.

Not quite as versatile as the 7-14 and the 9-18 but still you can cover the 12mm or 14mm with a prime.

Think it goes under several names inc rokinon

It does look amazing considering the price, I have though about getting one to use as an UWA instead of the 7-14mm, still not sure if I'm keeping the 12mm or not, looks like I've sold my 9-18mm which has covered a lot of the cost of it.

Still think I could be better to return the 12mm and order the 7-14 from Kerso for £675.

Thanks folks :-)

Cracking shot Julian, looks a really good lens.

The G5 really looks like the camera the G3 should have been. I do love the images the G3 produces but it's handling is crap. If the G5 gets cheap I'll be getting one too

Can't wait! Off to SRS in Watford in the morning to buy a EM5. Still don't know which to get the Silver or Black, keep on changing my mind.

I have one, although not used much now but here are a few indoor shots I took with it on the G3 and an IR shot from a G1. Had it with me on friday for some Hexham abbey shots but could not find the menu option on the G3 to "shoot without lens" :bonk:

Julian (shrubmonkey) also has one.

I'm a proud new owner of a Silver EM5. Just want to say thanks to Dan at SRS in Watford. Such decent guys in there. Just waiting for the battery to charge so I can go out and have a play.

I was going to SRS tomorrow to make up my mind about getting the EM-5, but when I spoke to them at lunchtime they said "sorry but we are out of stock".

So it will be another 2 weeks before I can visit them (photo shoot all next week), hopefully they will have the grip in stock then as well.

Regards

Well when I was in around 1.30pm, Dan said he had 3 silver (now 2) and 1 black one left.

I have 2 of black E-M5 arriving next week if anyone is looking for one before I start advertising them. Please pm rather than reply to this thread as I sometimes miss posts. Regards Ian.

Why is there such an issue getting hold of genuine bln-1 batteries?

Anyone got experience of working clones?

How many shots roughly can I expect from a genuine battery?

Will I be able to mix genuine and clone batteries in the body/grip?

So looks like you have definitely decided to rejoin the M4/3 club :)

I think you have made the right decision over the GX1:thumbs:

Let's hope you are happy this time around :).

The last day today for the free 2 part case - what do you think they will offer next? Cashback or reduce the price?

I'd almost expect them not to offer anything, camera is selling fine at the current price and it seems that the free case isn't enticing people to buy so I'm not sure why they'd bother offering cashback or a price cut.

Average seems to be 300-450 but really depends on what your doing, genuine batteries do seem in short supply.

I've got a 3rd party battery I received with mine which seems fine, and you can mix batteries in the grip/body.

Planning on paying the £200 odd for the grip?

Thanks - I was planning on buying the grip - until I borrowed the Nikon D800 from work this evening :help:

There are some impressive stories on DPR about these cameras surviving falls. It seems to be a well built bit of kit.

Well I've sold the 14mm as well to further slim down my lineup now to 7-14 (arriving tomorrow), 25, 45 and the 100-300.

Some slight misgivings over letting the 14mm go as its by far the smallest physically and very handy to stick in a bag but ultimately I can see me picking up a used 20mm to use when I want compactness.

i want it - but not got my om-d yet

Congrats Alan on the incoming E-M5, you'll love it. You'll love it even more when you have found your way around it, it takes a while.

As for the case its offered for sale in the 'Classified' section....;)

I was surprised at it's quality, it's leather and very well made.

There appears to be a worldwide shortage of grips. I did stumble across this - http://reallyrightstuff.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=BOEM5-Set&type=3&eq=&desc=BOEM5-Set%3a-Base-%2b-L-Plate-%2b-Grip-%28black%29

Would this be a good alternative to the HLD-6?

Hi, I got my grip from DigitalRev. I ordered it on a Monday and it arrived on the Thursday. It was dispatched from Hong Kong with quicker service than I've had from some things that where sent from within the UK. It was also a little bit cheaper than UK quoted prices.

I'm in the process of selling all my Nikon gear to fund the purchase of an OMD. Can't wait. i've heard nothing but good things about image quality and build.
