Tracking does not have a great record of being a successful function. FWIW I have never used it.Im learning this camera as it’s new to me. If I wanted a photo of my dog running I would normally use my Sony 6500. But I want to learn this em1 mk3. I had the 45mm lens on.
This was on af tracking, hi speed and on shutter mode around a 1,000. Auto everything else. I have untouched the image.
As you can see this is the sort of photo I was getting (I got maybe two hits out of 50)
What can I do to improve the focus as she’s running straight at me?

Banded Demoiselle, Dixton, Wales by Pete, on FlickrAnything coming straight at you is extremely difficult for AF to keep focus on. Even the OM1 struggles (not sure if the OM1 Mkii does any better)Im learning this camera as it’s new to me. If I wanted a photo of my dog running I would normally use my Sony 6500. Try c.af … high frame rate .. sequential high speed .. all focus points … there’s something in the menu that utilises the nearest focus points but I can’t remember what it’s called , I certainly had lots of success with birds flying towards me so it does work . Use a.v rather than shutter priority with a minimal speed of 1/1600 sec ,use the lens wide open auto iso as this reduces the chance of background interference.. …do not ever use tracking it doesn’t work .. a.f sensitively at +2 .. it does eventually fall into place but you have to forget what worked on other brands .. some peeps use BBF but I prefer the shutter button. It’s a great camera but takes time to gel with it . edit woke up now .. use all points focussing and invoke cluster focus .. google how to install it as not had a mkiii for awhile !!Im learning this camera as it’s new to me. If it was me i would look for a second hand om1 mk1.I’m a bit ignorant when it comes to the current cameras from Olympus/OM.
I’m looking for in camera focus bracketing plus stacking,I do have Helicon lite also.
I’d also like to use the camera for some local wildlife ,foxes rabbits squirrels birds etc.
I like the look of the OM-5 new,or should I be looking at a EM-1 mkiii S/H or save a bit more and get either OM-1 MK1 or 2?
I’ve owned a couple of Olympus cameras in the past and was impressed with colour and sharpness and feel drawn back now.
just landing by jeff cohen, on FlickrA second hand e-m1 mk3 + lens will cost you about the same as the OM5 with lens from Cotswold cameras. Basically the same camera in a slight smaller body.I’m a bit ignorant when it comes to the current cameras from Olympus/OM.

Is it pretty much similar then,of course the OM-5 would be new .what do you get in the OM-1 that you don’t in the 5?A second hand e-m1 mk3 + lens will cost you about the same as the OM5 with lens from Cotswold cameras. Basically the same camera in a slight smaller body.
OM1’s have a newer processor etc. the 5 uses the one from the e-m1 mk3.Is it pretty much similar then,of course the OM-5 would be new .what do you get in the OM-1 that you don’t in the 5?
Thanks

The OM-1 has a stacked sensor. Don’t underestimate its value. It has an improved menu structure and has better build quality. I also think it has better subject detection and better autofocus.OM1’s have a newer processor etc. the 5 uses the one from the e-m1 mk3.
Not sure what other bits it gas

best foot forward by jeff cohen, on Flickrjust do it robin ,you won't miss the e.m1x in fact sell both and get two mkii's and save £600ADVICE PLEASE ~ What would YOU do? ....
I have a E-M1X and a OM-1 'mk1' and often go out with both bodies, each with a different lens mounted ~ 40-150 Pro and 12-40 Pro. Otherwise I go out with only the OM-1 + 150-400mm TC Pro. I shoot regularly, probably averaging about 500 images every week, so both my camera bodies get used but the OM-1 more than the E-M1X.
I am thinking of buying a OM-1 Mk II to replace my E-M1X and am very tempted by the Olympus offer of £300 Discount plus 5-year Guarantee which ends tomorrow 10th October.
I don't need to upgrade but ideally would prefer to work with two bodies which are more similar and there are advantages, especially when swopping in a hurry! Muscle memory should never be underestimated!
Thanks for your thoughts and opinions, especially those with a OM-1 Mk II.
Although i use Sony now i would change. the EM1X is a great camera but a bit old now .ADVICE PLEASE ~ What would YOU do? ....
