Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

With the increasing 'push' emails about online webinars on youTube by OM System for the Feb 8th announcement I sincerely hope it is not just(?) to introduce the new 90mm Macro lens!

What I am hoping for is possibly inclusion re: OM1 firmware update/improvements and possibly more clearly defined "Roadmap" of future lenses and kit

Oh yes M4/3 can't do bokeh and sharp images blah blah
I have taken plenty of sharp pics with plenty of bokeh with the 45 1.8, I don’t think anyone would say otherwise. Of course any camera is a tool and if you really want to focus on bokeh then m4/3 shouldn’t be your first choice of format.

That said I’ve recently picked up the 20 1.4 and the lens has so much character, sharpness and most importantly smooth bokeh.

The 90mm f3.5 Macro is now officially announced, priced at £1299.99. And it's compatible with the teleconverters!
.... That's really good news. I won't buy one yet though but the compatibility with MC-14 and MC-20 makes all the difference and would be a deal-breaker for me if the TCs didn't mount. I was only £100 out on my guesstimate of price.

For those interested there are lens intro live videos coming up today :

I will try and watch some stuff later but it looks a very special piece of kit.

I want one and just wondering about pre ordering.

.... There's also an American live video later by a well-known Macro photographer - I'll post a link when I find it.

So far, it's ticking all the boxes and could be as special as the 150-400mm TC PRO is! OM Digital Solutions are trying their hardest to maintain very high standards of specification in their PRO range. There's no justification for some users to bitch at the prices - Quality always comes at a cost simply because it costs more to develop and produce.

Ive preordered. The price is very good for a pro macro lens. Before I got the OM-1 i was very close to going back to Canon solely due to their new Macro (which is more expensive than this one) but I am glad I waited and went Olympus tbh. From watching review videos, everyone is raving about it especially paired to the OM-1.
I assume I am a bit slow on the preordering though as I reckon there is going to be high interest in this lens but if I am first to get one here when they get released I will get as many shots up as I can

I would be interested in that video. I also think it may be as special as the 150-400 well at least to me.

I only got the email invite to pre-order today from LCE.

I made the comment as a nod to the M4/3 haters on the internet

Watched Peter Forsgard's video on it earlier. Impressive.

I'm selling my Sony kit & coming back to Olympus.

only need an EM-1 MK2 I think (which my friend may have for sale soon).

Back's playing up so need to downsize.

12-100 f4 PRO will be on my list with that body.
Your better off with a mkiii prices are rock bottom at the moment

I tried watching the Cla(i)res but gave up at the point Aaron Harivel appeared. They were just toooo irritating.

Having watched the DP review it looks very impressive.
Plus points for me are:

1. Image stabilisation
2. Compatible with MC14
3. Getting rid of the 60mm macro's annoying focus dial and replacing it with a slide switch

As of now starting to save the pennies

The Chris McGinnis video is better watch with much more useful feedback.

The switch was just tedious and I use MF so I did not get on all with the 60mm. They need a Mk ii of that lens.

.... :agree:

I tried and tried and tried but never got on with the modus operandi of the 60mm either, although some people do very well with it.

Don't you think that the new 90mm Macro will do everything which the 60mm does and in fact much more?

I think the 90mm looks amazing and I want one.

I’m with you on this, except I didn’t even try. I watched the 8pm presentation (maybe 7pm here) and the female presenter there was equally silly at times - why can’t they just get on with it and deliver the info? Some seem to like it though, so I’m just a grumpy old woman.

.... The longer haired Cla(i)re is okay on her own but the other one irritates me a lot.

Michella is usually okay too but I enjoy her facial expressions!

But the best OM presenter is David Smith in my opinion. [Especially as he was very enthusiastic about one of my questions! :D]

So thinking about getting a 2nd hand E-M1 mk3.
Would you go for mint one with 4000 shutter count and a 1 year warranty
Or
An Olympus refurbished one, with a few small marks, 300 shutter count and Olympus warranty. £50 cheaper than the 1st one

I think I personally would go for the mint one. I’m a stickler for marks on cameras it does put me off a bit and 4000 seems fairly low to me.

Second one for me, probably get marked sooner or later anyway.
I have got some excellent bargains when the cosmetic condition wasn't exactly pristine.

I am leaning towards the 1st one. I have bought from them before a couple of times and trust their descriptions

The shutter on the mkiii is rated for 400 thousand actuations so that’s not even 1 % used .. . Go for mint

The refurb one sounds like one possibly returned to Olympus as faulty. You don’t know if it was an intermittent fault which may or may not have been rectified. The higher count one has probably worked faultlessly and has been traded in order to upgrade.

Or maybe not

Refurbished items are returned to Olympus by retailers and may have minor marks and damaged boxes. Since being returned the item and its ancillary components have been carefully checked by Olympus technicians to ensure optimum operating performance. These items should offer many years of trouble-free operation, however should any problem occur all parts and labour are guaranteed by Olympus UK.

I have seen the repair centres of major camera manufacturers be unable to find intermittent faults. In fact, not just camera stuff - vehicles are a good example. I have first-hand experience of being at the manufacturers end and even we were unable to replicate faults which the customer definitely experienced.

It only applies if they are faulty.
I and many others had excellent cameras and lenses from the Fuji Refurb shop.
Any reason to suspect otherwise from Olympus?

Just me being sceptical. I too have had excellent stuff from Fuji refurb. Nowhere did I say this would always be the case. Just that it's something to be aware of and consider in the general decision-making process.

Anyone else using pny uhs II cards in the om1?
I've had my second one brick now.
I've noticed the pattern though. Shooting stills works perfect but then I shoot video and the camera locks up (turn off and battery out to sort) but then card error and that's it.
I'm going to email olympus about it but I'm wondering what makes of uhs II cards other people are using that haven't got this issue.
